With Valorant, Riot Games is sending a team shooter into the race for the first time. What is new territory for the MOBA experts is old hat for the industry. Countless multiplayer shooting games are vying for the crown with more or less similar concepts. Valorant differs from the competition in some essential points and should therefore bring a breath of fresh air into the genre. With our tips and tricks for Valorant, even shooter newbies can get started with the game.
Valorant is a team shooter: communication is essential
The new Free 2 title from Riot Games is a real team shooter. The emphasis is on team, not shooter - the latter is more the means to an end. Lively communication within your own team is essential to be victorious. This game tip for Valorant may sound superfluous, but it isn't: Team communication is the key to success far more than in other team games. Among other things, this is due to the significantly reduced game speed.
Positioning, routes and information about the opposing points of attack are three essential core pieces of information that a team should constantly exchange. Going it alone is not very promising - at least in matches with opponents of equal value. The exchange of information about who is playing which agent is also essential. Also when which skills are used. Classic communication via headset and microphone is the route of choice at Valorant. If you can't fall back on it, you should definitely use the game's ping function.
What is imperative to do this: learn the cards. The better players know the environment in which they are moving, the more precise the commands will be. In hectic situations in particular, it is important to reduce communication to the essential details, but to be as precise as possible about what, when and where happens. To do this, you simply have to know the hidden corners, blind spots and critical points on the map.
Best trick at Valorant: stay cool - in every situation!
Anyone who plays Valorant for the first time will quickly notice that this game feels different to most competitive titles. Riot's idea of a team shooter is slower: just running and bouncing across the map with the gun drawn is something that can work great in Battlefield, but is not a suitable means with Valorant. The shooter literally forces players to rest. And for this very reason, prudence and a tactical approach are more important than run-and-gun gameplay.
Those who run hardly hit Valorant. Aiming is then extremely difficult. In addition, opponents can immediately hear when someone sprints across the map - the steps reveal positions relatively accurately. So it's better to walk slowly and use speed as a tactical component, for example when you can be absolutely sure that there are no opponents nearby - then a short sprint can put you in a good position. However, you should not always use the “fast shoes” for this. In Valorant, whoever is first somewhere does not win.
Shooting wildly during the sprint is pointless. Valorant forces players to shoot from a resting position. The formula is simple: if you stand still, you have a good chance of scoring. Then the accuracy is highest. Even when walking, you shouldn't rely on continuous fire. Firing individual shots is okay, if you press the trigger as far as it will go, your accuracy will be reduced enormously. The best thing is: stop and shoot.
By the way: Shooting while pulling down the aiming device when shooting from the hip (ADS) should also be banned from the Valorant repertoire as soon as possible. While this can sometimes be useful, overall the disadvantages outweigh the disadvantages. Again, the accuracy is reduced and you quickly lose track. In Valorant, the weapons mostly hit well - even without "aiming down sights". ADS should therefore only be used if you want to "snipe away" opponents from a distance. This can be practiced at the shooting range, because accuracy and dispersion can be analyzed there. So you can improve your playstyle in a calm environment and get familiar with the weapons. Riot didn't implement practice mode by accident!
Valorant offers many of these small tweaks. It even includes loading the weapons. One thing has already been internalized from other shooters: shoot, reload, shoot, reload. With Valorant, this can quickly lead to discarding.
Don't get stuck on the special skills
In contrast to Overwatch, Valorant is not a pure hero shooter in which the team with the most beautiful thunderstorm effect wins. It depends more on tactics and your own skills than on the agent's special skills. Do not rely on the specials, but use them as a tactical bonus.
All special abilities can be used correctly and be enormously powerful. However, it should be used exactly that way: with the right timing. Basically, the specials at Valorant have a supportive character, they are not killer skills. This is especially true because they are only available in limited quantities - waste should therefore be avoided.
In any case, you should have played every agent and at least know their skills. Here, Riot Games is based on its MOBA hit League of Legends. The "Main" must not exist in Valorant. A balanced team is better than a group of favorite heroes.
Save your money
This also applies to coal. Hence the tips for Valorant: Don't waste money! You don't need new weapons every turn unless you die, then you have to go shopping. If you survive, you should use the gun from the previous round. On the one hand, this has perhaps already proven its worth, on the other hand, the money can then be used in later, decisive rounds in order to buy advantages. Instead, take the weapon of a defeated opponent, because you will also take this with you to the next round - provided you survive. If you already want to spend money, then the investment is an armor more sensible, often even advisable.
Running around in armor is almost mandatory at Valorant and therefore something that you should not be without. In essence, it's not even about the plus in life points, but about absorbing damage. Heavy armor costs 1.000, making it quite expensive. Don't save all your money, however, if you can't afford the luxury version - the light version costs 250 and is the bare minimum for survival.
