“Sky Team” from the publishers Kosmos and Scorpion Masqué is the game of the year 2024. The cooperative board game by Luc Rémond lets players take on the roles of pilots. Together they must then master landing scenarios.
Even players with a strong fear of flying can try Sky Team, even if the basic idea may initially put them off. After all, crashes are part of the business. The critics' jury of the Spiel des Jahres eV has chosen the board game, which was published in German by the Kosmos publishing house, as the Game of the Year 2024. The decision is entirely understandable, because Sky Team was already known as a hit in the scene before the awards ceremony.
The jury prize usually boosts the sales of the award-winning board games. In the case of Sky Team, this is not so easy, because the title is sold out on the market. However, the new contingents are likely to disappear from the shops quickly. Before August, Kosmos new copies.
Cooperative: Making decisions in the air
The jury's statement states: Sky Team is convincing in terms of gameplay, atmosphere and theme across the board. "The short games are highly rewarding if you're successful, and if you fail to land, you'll want to try again straight away."
Two players aged ten and over get a lot of fun for a price of just under 30 euros. Sky Team ultimately won the award against the other nominated games “Captain
Flip” by Paolo Mori and Remo Conzadori (PlayPunk) and “In the Ways of Darwin” by Grégory Grard and Matthieu Verdier (Sorry We Are French).
The idea comes from Luc Rémond. The author was born in 1978 and lives in France. After ten years as an engineer in the pharmaceutical and textile industry, he initially stayed at home as a father of six children before becoming a game designer! As a gamer, he loves 2-player games in particular, while as a
Author deals with all kinds of different types of game concepts. Whether for children or adults, whether simple or complex - he places particular emphasis on generating emotions at the gaming table.
In Sky Team, players take on the role of a pilot duo and face 20 diverse airport missions with varying levels of difficulty. The goal is to land the jet safely at various airports around the world. To do this, you have to skillfully assign the dice to the right fields in the cockpit in order to balance the plane, control the speed, open the landing flaps
and extend the landing gear and contact the tower. All of these tasks must be accomplished as a duo. Every airport has its own landing conditions - from Montreal to Tokyo.
With its original theme and extraordinary gameplay, Sky Team delivers an immersive experience for exactly two people aged 12 and over – in 20 minutes per mission.
A new scenario pack for Sky Team has already been announced for SPIEL'24 in Essen, which will bring additional missions into the game.
The Game of the Year award is considered, alongside the Children's Game of the Year and the Connoisseur's Game of the Year, the most important award for board games worldwide. For the fifth time since the award was established, a game from the publisher Kosmos was named Game of the Year.
