Elizabeth Hargrave's hit board game Wingbeat receives numerous new birds and bonus cards with the Asia offshoot. What is particularly interesting, however, is that the board game can also be played alone or with two ornithologists, as well as in a new mode for six to seven players.
The engine-building board game has been expanded by 90 new birds, and eleven bonus cards have been introduced into the game. With the latter, new options for additional victory points are created.
Flapping: Asia in the fourth quarter
Author Elizabeth Hargraves has taken on another continent to expand wings. All new animals come from the Asian habitat - given the name of the "expansion". It is also interesting that "Wingspan: Asia" can also be played as a stand-alone game for two players when it is released. Optionally, you can now even go solo. You don't need the base game then – Wing Beat: Asia is a stand-alone version for up to two players.
And: As a supplement to the original flapping wings board game, the expansion can now also be experienced for six to seven players via the new Flock mode.
Wingspan by Elizabeth Hargraves received in 2019 the award "Kennerspiel des Jahres" and was later expanded to include birds from Oceania and the Euro. The board game has proven to be a top title for publisher Stonemaier Games. Not only that: flapping wings is one of the world's most popular modern board games. The focus is on building an "engine", i.e. a chain of combinations, which then yields a particularly large number of points.
Each of the bird species available in the game has individual abilities and needs. Ultimately, it is the animals that have made the Kenner board game a mass phenomenon. The title was able to catch on not only with gaming enthusiasts but also with mainstream audiences due to its theme. Generalized retail chains, which included the board game Wingbeat in their sales range and thus made it available to a large audience, were also able to drive sales worldwide.
Asia is the third expansion for Wing Beat, after the Europe expansion and the Oceania expansion. Both added new bird maps and eggs, but Wingspan: Asia is now the first installment to be played as a standalone mode.
According to Stonemaier Games, the Asia offshoot will be released in November 2022. The price and other details will likely be announced in the coming weeks. In this country, the title about Tierra del Fuego games comes onto the market, in the print calendar the publisher confirms the new release for November of this year.
