Square Enix has announced Dawntrail, the fifth and latest expansion for the critically acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy XIV Online, scheduled for summer 2024. That's not all: Xbox fans will also be able to play on their current-gen console from spring 2024. This is a real first since the game was released in 2010.
The expansion was revealed by producer and director Naoki Yoshida in his keynote presentation at the 2023 Final Fantasy new world Tural offers.

The new expansion comes with a wealth of new content, including an increased level cap, multiple new jobs, expansive new areas, new tribes, new dungeons and new combat content such as FATEs, High Hunts and Treasure Hunts, side quests and much more.
Dawnrtrail – some details of the new expansion:
- Travel to the new world of Tural and explore its capital, Tuliyollal.
- Explore new areas, including the mountainous Urqopacha and the Yak T'el Forest.
- New tribal people, including the tiny Pelupelu, who wear distinctive masks and live in Urqopacha.
- Level cap increased from 90 to 100.
- Several new jobs
- Combat content such as FATEs, High Hunts and Treasure Hunts as well as side quests
- New dungeons
- New threats, including Valigarmanda
- Content Helper Update
- New equipment and recipes
- Comprehensive new casual content
- New Unsteady Vault, new Alliance Raid, 8-Player Raid and Fatal Raid
- PvP update
- Ongoing content updates including a Blue Mage update, more of Hildibrand's cases, new plans for the Deep Vault, and updates to the Gold Saucer.
Visual improvements for Final Fantasy XIV
Additionally, Dawntrail delivers the first comprehensive graphical improvement for characters and worlds, including improvements to aesthetics, higher resolution for textures and shadows, and improved graphics for material. It was also revealed in the keynote presentation that the existing trial version for Final Fantasy XIV Online will be expanded with patch 6.5. When released, the even more comprehensive test version will offer all content from the Stormblood expansion (and updates up to and including patch 4.58), including the Red Mage and Samurai jobs and a level cap of 70 for newcomers, with no limits on playing time.
In a surprise announcement, Yoshida shared the stage with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer during his keynote presentation to confirm that the highly anticipated Xbox version of the acclaimed MMO will be coming to Xbox Series X|S in Spring 2024. An open beta will begin during the Patch 6.5x series. The digital-only release features 4K support on Xbox Series X. Yoshida concluded by revealing the upcoming collaboration with Fall Guys, Mediatonic's party royale obstacle course hit. The Warriors of Light Fame Pass will be available in Fall Guys on August 22, 2023, and a new Fall Guys-inspired Gold Saucer attraction is coming to Final Fantasy XIV Online as part of the Patch 6.5x series.
The time to get started could hardly be better. There are more than 27 million registered players. The free trial has been expanded to include all content from A Realm Reborn and the Heavensward expansion (and updates up to patch 3.56), as well as an additional playable race (Au Ra) and three additional playable jobs (Dark Knight, Astrologer and Machinist). The free, unlimited trial offers hundreds of hours of gameplay and an award-winning story equivalent to two full Final Fantasy games.
