Several new community conventions have seen the light of day in recent years. There is also an annual event at Messe Erfurt that focuses on content as close as possible to the fan: MAG. For the second time, the organizers invited to the Erfurt exhibition center. The focus was on big publishers, well-known big names in the scene and lots of fun.
MAG Erfurt relies on fan service
In Erfurt, too, the organizers of the still young convention are relying on a large number of fan services. This is known from the newly established one in Cologne, among other things CCXP Cologne, which conceptually relies on a similar orientation. A total of 145 exhibitors and more than 35 influencers made MAG Erfurt 2019 an experience for visitors.
At the autograph sessions of stars like Paluten, Rewinside, Vik, Rocketbeans and other artists, the interest of the fans was so great that the pens almost started to glow. Also popular were the creative talks by Youtubers Paul alias Nerdy Timber, the Bolognese magic by LeFloid in the show kitchen or the funny hands-on activities by “Duel um die Welt” participant and “Bloodhound Gang” bassist Evil Jared on stage for Borderlands 3 made visitors' hearts beat faster.
The second edition of our community convention MAG was a complete success. We are delighted that so many young people have come to see us at the exhibition center. The increase in exhibitors, and thus also the variety of the convention offer, as well as the expanded supporting program with numerous workshops and panels, impressed our visitors. Michael Kynast, Managing Director of Messe Erfurt GmbH
The organizers offered a colorful program in several halls. In Hall 1 they gambled what keyboards and gamepads had to offer and talked shop about the best strategies. Fans could also watch the stars of the scene while streaming. Over 40 companies from the games industry, including Nintendo, 2K Games and Yager, showed innovations at their stands. One trend could not be missing at MAG Erfurt this year: indie games. Innovative newcomers were given space in the Indie Arena Booth at the convention - just like at the previous one Gamescom 2019.
Also pretty cool: At the “Friendly Fire Auction” fans had the opportunity to bid for items from Nintendo, Figuya or 2K Games, among others. In total, over 6.000 euros were collected for a good cause.
According to the exhibitor Headup Games from Düren, known among other things as the publisher of Bridge Constructor, the MAG was the "highlight of the German trade fair landscape". The people from Düren particularly liked the family-friendly atmosphere and the friendly, enthusiastic fans. The infrastructure of Messe Erfurt was also praised. The Hologate crew, who describe the MAG as a "wonderful event" and are pleased with the mostly positive feedback from the visitors, see it in a similar way. The organizers at Super Crowd Entertainment are happy to accept the praise. Together with Messe Erfurt GmbH, the organizers attracted around 10.000 visitors to the MAG last year.
The MAG has united people with the same hobbies across all federal state borders in an exuberant, peaceful and family atmosphere. With so much positive feel-good energy and such a great increase in visitors, it is probably clear that we are starting a third edition. All good things are known to be at least three. Wolf Lang, Super Crowd Entertainment
Whether gaming, cosplay or manga and anime - a heartfelt wish came true for many visitors when they were able to experience their idols up close at MAG Erfurt at autograph sessions, talk sessions or while strolling through the halls. During the three days, the cosplay fans also showed their creative skills. Whether with elaborate zombie make-up or detailed costumes of popular anime and manga characters - especially in Hall 2 it was all about seeing and being seen.
The most beautiful costumes were presented to a jury in the cosplay competition on Sunday. Anime and manga fans could shop for the latest editions, merchandise and old classics to their hearts' content. There was also plenty to see from the miniature artist Tetsuya Tanaka, who visited MAG Erfurt for the first time and is delighted with the keen interest in his works.
The MAG Erfurt is to take place again next year. The date is already set. "It's best to make a note of October 2nd to 4th, 2020 in your calendar. Because then MAG will return to Erfurt,” Wolf Lang finally announced.
