Lamborghini Esports has announced the winners of the third edition of its annual sim racing competition, The Real Race 2022. This year, the €15.000 competition has returned with a brand new format across three regions, EMEA, NALA and APAC.
After two successful editions, one of this year's winners will get the chance to become part of the Lamborghini e-sports factory team. The racing simulation Assetto Corsa Competizione was the platform for The Real Race this year. 2.751 players from all over the world and another 1.145 simracing drivers registered on Lamborghini Esports took part in the challenge. All participants got the chance to experience Lamborghini's new race car, the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2. Radical improvements in aerodynamics and the uncompromising design of the Lamborghini Centro Stile make the Huracán Super EVO2 the most powerful racing car ever developed for the one-make cup.
Germany's Niklas Houben beat 676 other EMEA competitors to be crowned one of the winners of The Real Race 2022. The Brit Luke Whitehead took second place and the German Bastian Richter took third place.
First qualification with the 24 best
This year, too, things were hot between the opponents and the winners had it anything but easy. In a first qualifying phase, the 24 best players had to assert themselves against the competition. This was followed by the group phase, in which the best previously qualified simracers from the three regions competed against each other in six main matches. In addition, as part of a last chance, the participants could qualify for the grand finale, where the champion of the respective region was determined.
The Real Race has now established itself as a key event on the e-sports calendar and has generated renewed interest. With 192 riders from Asia Pacific, 278 from North America and 677 from Europe, Middle East and Africa, The Real Race once again brought together the best riders from around the world.
In the spectacular finale, three drivers took the title: Niklas Houben for EMEA, Renan Negrini for NALA and Lukas Birss for APAC.
At the beginning of the year, Lamborghini announced that three drivers are now members of the E-Sport factory team: the two sim drivers Giorgio Simonini and Gianfranco Giglioli and the winner of the second edition of The Real Race, Jordan Sherratt. At the beginning of the year, Jordan Sherratt was able to assert himself and achieved fifth place in the GT World Challenge Europe. The Intercontinental GT Challenge Esports Series has one race remaining, leaving the final result wide open. The Lamborghini e-sports team drew attention with a first place in the Bathurst 12 Hours and a second place in the Kyalami 9 Hours and is currently 4th overall. Lamborghini's expectations for the last race on October 22nd is correspondingly large.
Since 2020, Lamborghini has been enabling young people and gamers to become professional sim racers and start their own careers in the e-sports scene. The famous car brand is dedicated to inspiring people to keep pushing themselves, raising the bar and making their wildest dreams come true. It is not for nothing that the Lamborghini brand motto is "Driving Humans Beyond". This competition opens up new opportunities for all those who dream of a professional simracing career.
The winners of this year's competition, however, agree: they are all proud to have taken part in this competition, which not only gave them the opportunity to push their limits, but also to face the many hours of hard training in order to win to gain.
Renan Negrini, the winner from the NALA region: "It's really incredible to win! It was my first big event that I was successful in and I'm incredibly happy! After winning the first race, it gave me a lot of self-confidence for the rest of the competition. I've trained a lot and I can't put into words how happy I am right now!"
The Real Race has once again taken the hearts of vehicle and racing enthusiasts by storm with an emotionally charged competition. But that's not all: as part of a partnership with Asphalt 9: Legends, Lamborghini has launched the mobile racing competition "Countach LPI 800-4 Challenge" with a total of 980.000 participants and 53.000 registered players. The competition was also well received by the fans with more than 58.000 viewers in the live stream of the final. Ledjon Feraj (UK) took the win on iOS.
Colombian Andrés Camilo Ardila Garzón was crowned the winner on Android. Finally, Peruvian Fabrizio Polanco came out on top on Windows devices.
Christian Mastro, Marketing Director of Automobili Lamborghini, commented: "The Countach LPI 800-4 follows in the tradition of a legendary vehicle that revolutionized the world of supercars and is inextricably linked to Lamborghini's DNA."
The Real Race 2022 was built around the Countach to introduce players to an exclusive 112-piece limited-edition vehicle. All players could take part in the qualifying races from August 1st to 7th and August 22nd to 28th. The winners then progressed to the grand finale on September 14th and then to the iOS finale, which was streamed live on Lamborghini's social channels. With 4,2 million races completed by players, Asphalt 9: Legends once again shows its qualities.
