Well finally: Electronic Arts has let the Jedi out of the bag and announced three new Star Wars video games - just in time before the exclusive license expires next year. The titles will include a sequel and two new games.
Fans had already expected it, now publisher has Electronic Arts made it official: new Star Wars games are coming, three in number. As EA announced, one of the titles is the continuation of the “Jedi Series”, i.e. a successor to it Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. It's been rumored for a long time, but now it's official.
Star Wars: Full charge before license expires
More surprising is the announcement of two more new Star Wars games: one is supposed to be a first-person shooter, the other a strategy game. Respawn Entertainment holds hands over all three works.
Unsurprisingly, game director Stig Asmussen is responsible for continuing the Jedi Series. The games journalist Jason Schreier states that the development of the successor should already be well advanced. That's entirely possible, as rumors of another post-Jedi Fallen Order game abounded early on after the action-adventure game's successful launch. In a tweet, Schreier also commented on the other two titles: these are said to be in a much earlier stage of development.
How Electronic Arts Respawn Entertainment is also developing the new first-person shooter in the Star Wars universe. The work has only just begun, they say. Game director Peter Hirschmann is a veteran who was already involved in Battlefront 1 and 2, so he has the relevant expertise. It is unclear what the new Star Wars shooter is.
The Star Wars strategy game is not developing Respawn, but the newly founded studio Bit Reactor. Respawn acts as a producer here. With Greg Foertsch, the project is led by an industry veteran who was previously involved with XCOM, among other things.
In time for the expiry of the exclusive license, Electronic Arts announced what fans had long suspected: a good load of Star Wars.
