Blizzard fans have to be strong. The publisher is currently in a state of upheaval - now the releases of Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 are also affected. Both games are among the most anticipated - and the waiting time is significantly longer, as has now become known.
In a statement, Blizzard states that both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 will be postponed. "These are two of the most anticipated titles in the industry and our teams have made great strides toward completion over the past few quarters," it said. However, they want to give themselves additional time to complete the developments and ultimately deliver products that "excite communities for many years to come".
Diablo and Overwatch: Releases may no longer be in 2022
The waiting time for Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 will probably be longer than initially assumed. Smaller delays in game development can be expected anyway, but the two potential bestsellers could not appear until 2023. Blizzard gives an indication of this with the information that the "financial upswing" expected for the coming year will be delayed. The two successor titles may not appear until the beginning of the following financial year from April 2023.
Blizzard has not announced the release dates for Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4.
In any case, many things are still in upheaval at Blizzard. Jen Oneal, who was recently appointed co-boss, is already back in her position the aufgegeb. She joined Mike Ybarra just a few months ago after J Allen Brack left the company. "I'm not doing this because I have no hope for Blizzard, quite the opposite — I'm inspired by the passion of everyone here who works wholeheartedly toward meaningful, lasting change," said Oneal.
After all, Diablo fans can still hope for the mobile offshoot Diablo Immortal, which recently entered a closed beta phase with the necromancer.
