As part of Gamescom 2022, Bungie announced the first details about Destiny 2: Lightfall, the latest expansion for Destiny 2, which will be released on February 28th, 2023, during a special showcase event. Lightfall is the penultimate chapter of Destiny 2's Light and Darkness saga, continuing the epic story that has spanned almost a decade in development.

Bungie also revealed a new partnership with Epic Games. Destiny 2 is available now on the Epic Games Store, and content from Destiny is appearing in two Epic games: Fortnite and Fall Guys. Fortnite-inspired ornament sets are also being introduced in Destiny 2 - for the first time, original Fortnite characters appear in another video game series.

Lightfall can be pre-ordered

In Lightfall, players will encounter Calus, the malevolent former Emperor of the Cabal, who returns to our solar system with the Pyramid Fleet as an apprentice of the Witness - the cosmic nemesis first introduced in Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. Using "Strang", a brand new subclass, the Guardians explore a new destination - Neptune's shimmering metropolis Neomuna - under attack by Calus' mysterious and powerful Shadow Legion.
Pre-orders for Destiny 2: Lightfall are open now, and anyone who purchases the Lightfall + Annual Pass Edition will immediately receive the Quicksilver Storm Exotic Auto Rifle and more.
During the showcase event, the partnership between Bungie and Epic Games was announced. Destiny is available now on the Epic Games Store. Players who purchase Destiny 2 from the Epic Games Store by August 30 at 19am EDT will also receive the Destiny 2: Bungie 30 Pack for free.
As part of this partnership, Destiny content will appear in two Epic games: Fortnite and Fall Guys. Fortnite players can customize their characters with new outfits of iconic Destiny characters - Commander Zavala, Ikora Rey, and the Stranger Exo - as well as new Destiny-themed cosmetics like back blings, pickaxes, and Sparrow gliders. The Destiny cosmetic will be available in the Fortnite Item Shop tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. ET. Players can also try out a new Fortnite island inspired by the classic Destiny 4 Crucible map Javelin-2, developed by Creator Team PWR using Fortnite creative tools. The island is more than just a remake, it also features "Control Mode" style gameplay with unique weapons and ultimate abilities. The Fortnite island is now live.
Additionally, starting September 17, Fall Guys players will be able to enter the Stumbling Halls with Destiny-themed cosmetics, including Titan, Hunter, and Warlock costumes, a new Spicy Noodle Soup Festival, and more accessories.
Three new Fortnite-themed ornament sets are now available in Destiny 2, featuring a classic Battle Royale outfit design for each Destiny class:

  • The Black Knight Titan ornament in the style of the Black Knight
  • The Drift-style Painted Kitsune Warlock ornament
  • The Eternal Vengeance hunter ornament in the style of Oblivion

The showcase event also featured the new season of Destiny 2 - Season of the Plunderers. Guardians can now jump into the Season of the Scavengers to hunt down Eramis, Kell of Darkness, who has escaped from her prison and is scouring the galaxy for powerful relics. To battle Eramis, the Guardians will assemble a crew of daring adventurers, battle through all-new activities and uncover buried treasure along the way.
Also, over the next week, the Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen expansions will be free to download and play on any platform.
