There are only a few weeks left until Gamescom 2022. Recently, cancellations from some industry giants rained down. Now one thing is certain: Microsoft is participating. After Ubisogt, THQ Nordic, Koch Media, and Sega, another big name is represented in the line-up of this year's trade fair in Cologne.
Preparations for the world’s largest gaming event, the Gamescom, are making great strides forward. Since the last update in mid-May, the number of registered companies has doubled to more than 500, and many more registrations will be added before the event. From traditional AAA companies to promising indie newcomers to numerous tech companies, Gamescom shows games in all their facets as well as exciting new developments from many areas related to games.

Felix Falk, Managing Director of game – Association of the German Games Industry: “Together with the community and the exhibitors, we are really looking forward to the end of August, when the unique gamescomatmosphere can be experienced live on site in Cologne. But one thing is also clear: While several areas such as the indie area, merchandise area or event arena will be larger and more diverse than ever before, some important partners will be missing, while other exhibitors will be on site for the first time.
This shows that the long-term effects of the corona pandemic are not leaving the games industry unaffected. Delayed game developments, increased costs and uncertainties when it comes to international travel are just three reasons why some games companies cannot be represented in Cologne again this year. But that doesn’t change the fact that gamescom will once again be an absolute highlight and that visitors will have an unforgettable experience.”
Oliver Frese, Managing Director and COO of Koelnmesse: “The comeback after Corona is challenging for many events and trade fairs. It is all the more pleasing that the Gamescom thanks to the numerous companies represented on site, it will defend its status as the world's largest games event in the first year after the break. We are delighted that we can once again implement all elements of Gamescom as a 360-degree event and offer additional innovations such as an expanded offer for creators or even more community activities with Gamescom Epix. This will make Gamescom THE experience of the global gaming year again. Like the companies that have already registered, we are convinced that Gamescom is and will remain a central meeting place for companies and the community in the future."
