After a false start, Cyberpunk 2077 has long since reached the top of the video game world thanks to numerous patches and an expansion. Anyone who has finished with the action role-playing game can now experience new adventures in analog form. The publisher Go on Board will soon start crowdfunding for Cyberpunk 2077 - The Board Game.
Fans who can't get enough of Cyberpunk 2077 now have alternatives. For example, they can read one of the novels or enter the world of the pen and paper role-playing game to try out the video game template for themselves. Or you can bring Cyberpunk 2077 to the table as a board game - a new crowdfunding campaign called Go on Board is starting on September 3rd on Gamefound.
Unlike Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City
But wait: board game. Cyberpunk 2077. Didn't that already exist? Yes! However, the title Cyberpunk 2077 - Gangs of Night City by CMON was a completely different game concept than that of the Polish studio Go on Board. The idea of CMON came from Kickstarter was well received, but given the popular license, it was not a project that took off. The Area Control board game takes up the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and Night City as a setting, but overall, due to the rather generic progression, it is only loosely woven into the stories that fans know from the video game. Go on Board wants to do things differently - and there is a good chance that it will work. After all, the publisher had already released a campaign board game for The Witcher (in German here via Asmodee available) has already proven that licensed games can be produced in good quality.
The new Cyberpunk 2077 board game is to be based on a tactical concept and a narrative experience. Go on Board describes the title as a "story-driven tactical action game", and players will be able to engage in intense combat. The story is an alternative to that in the video game: fans go on a raid in Konpecki Plaza, but then receive a mysterious phone call. There will be three story lines, each with 13 missions. The gameplay is therefore quite variable, you will meet new enemies, visit new places and can play through Cyberpunk 2077 - The Board Game multiple times. There are also "story cards" that provide further variety. 50 of them are included with the game - the cards grant advantages or have negative effects for subsequent missions, so you will notice a direct impact on the difficulty level.
What is important in a direct comparison with CMON's Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is the fact that Go on Board's work allows you to delve much deeper into the lore simply because of the available characters. Anyone who loves the video game will certainly find this analogue adventure a good alternative to bridge the waiting time for Cyberpunk 2.
The board game is being developed in collaboration with CD Projekt Red and is aimed at up to four players; you can also play alone if you wish. The time per game is stated to be 60 to 90 minutes.
The According to the publisher, the crowdfunding campaign starts on September 3rdHowever, Go on Board has been drumming up publicity for months.
