Fans of CD Projekt Red's game blockbusters Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 have to be strong: As the developer and publisher announced, the revamped versions for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S will no longer appear this year.
CD Projekt Red announced on social media that both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunter in the versions revised for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S will not appear until next year. So far, fans, especially with Cyberpunk 2077, assumed a next-gen release in 2021 - but nothing will come of it.
Next-gen versions postponed after replacement
Christmas could have been good with the revamped version of Cyberpunk 2077 for Playstation and Xbox Series X | S - now it is clear: fans have to be patient again. This also applies to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with rumors recently pointing to an imminent release of the next-gen version. The plans have apparently changed after the developers of both games exchanged views and made their recommendations.
Accordingly, after analyzing the development status, both next-gen games had to be postponed to 2022. Cyperpunk 2077 for Playstation and Xbox Series X | S should now appear in the first quarter of 2022, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the quarter after. For Cyberpunk 2077 this is another punch in the stomach after the messed up release. Fans have now agreed to more conciliatory tones, that should now be the end of it.
With the current shortage of the new consoles, some fans will probably get over the postponements, but those who have been looking forward to releases soon will be disappointed again. At least there is understanding on the part of the community, especially with regard to Cyberpunk 2077: Better an error-free next-gen version than another “bug festival”, according to one opinion that can currently be read on the Internet.
