Indie hit Core Keeper has received its second major expansion. Desert of Beginnings celebrated its release on November 10th. In addition to the new biome of the same name and the Molten Quarry underground biome, there is plenty of other content. The biggest innovation, however, is karting. Now the adventurers can roar through the desert and leave their friends in the dust.
Core Keeper is a mining sandbox adventure for 1-8 players set in an ancient cave full of creatures, treasure and trinkets. It was released to Steam Early Access earlier this year and has already sold over 1 million copies.
Off to the "desert of beginnings"
After Core Keeper went into Early Access earlier this year, the second major content expansion is now available in the form of a free update called Desert of Beginnings. In addition to the new biome of the same name and the Molten Quarry Underground biome, there is more exciting content than ever before with new enemies, weapons, music and base building options. The biggest innovation, however, is karting.
With the new Galaxite ore, players can build their own Galaxite workbench and craft three different types of go-karts. This is a brand new type of vehicle that allows explorers to traverse the desert at breakneck speed. They can drive their enemies flat or meet up with their friends for an off-road adventure together.
As they journey through scorching dunes and ancient burial chambers, adventurers can grab the new Bug Net and go on a bug hunt. The small captured bugs, larvae, fireflies and other friendly creatures can then be presented to the players' world. To find all 12 new animals, players should explore all of the Core Keeper biomes.
A variety of new weapons, gear, tools, and fish will also be available to players as they take on the two new bosses: Igneous, the molten mass, and Ra-Akar, the sand titan. In addition, the update brings several quality-of-life improvements that players have been asking for. These include fixes related to Steam achievements, the ability to fish from boats and mine carts, clickable recipes to automatically add ingredients to the cooking pot, and the option to pick up, place, and destroy some larger game world objects.
“Desert Beginnings is by far the largest Core Keeper update to date. As such, we are particularly excited for players to try out the new expansion,” said Sven Thole, COO & Lead Animator at Pugstorm. “We listened very carefully to what players enjoy most about Core Keeper and what additional content they would like to see in the game. We believe we've come a long way in fulfilling those wishes with this update. Our team loves the new gameplay possibilities that the go-karts bring to the table and can't wait to see the reactions of the players.”
