The Playstation 5 is the fastest-selling console in the United States, according to a report by survey company NPD Group. In its latest March report, the company had examined the market and found, among other things, that Sony's console was able to set a historic record.
The March report of the NPD Group shows the success of video games impressively: Hardware sales measured by sales were 47 percent higher in March of this year than twelve months ago. The total turnover of 680 million US dollars also sets a new monthly record.
Playstation 5 can't beat the Nintendo Switch
With the Playstation 5, Sony has set a historic sales record for the USA as the fastest-selling console - in terms of both units sold and sums of money. In any case, no other console could sell faster.
The Playstation 5 has only been available on the market for almost five months - and the record has already tumbled. Nevertheless: Although the Playstation 5 is selling quickly, most copies of the Nintendo Switch went over the counter in the first quarter of the year, and Nintendo's hybrid console was also at the top of sales in March.
Sony had only announced in February that the Playstation 5 had been able to deliver around 4,5 million copies last year. By the end of the fiscal year on March 31, the company wanted to build 7,6 million units, and this figure could even be exceeded. On April 28th, Sony will present its quarterly figures; the analysts expect a significant increase in sales.
However, there is still a lot of work to be done for Sony to increase the availability of the Playstation 5. The console is currently out of stock at many retailers, but the PS5 can only be obtained through fixed-term contracts - for example for cell phones. Retail bundles are hard to come by. This requires patience and a lucky hand from players. Because new contingents could be available at any time, it can be worthwhile to check out the dealers on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, Sony is continuing to work on optimizing the Playstation 5: With the April update, the first major system software update for Playstation 5, players can save PS5 titles on compatible external USB drives and reinstall them much faster than downloading them it is possible. But: You cannot play the tracks directly from the USB storage device. Sony is currently working on the storage expansion via M.2 drives.
