Ubisoft's successful Assassin's Creed series celebrates its 15th anniversary. The brand has long been present not only on the screen, but also in the form of merchandising or on the gaming table at home. CMON now wants to implement a pen-and-paper role-playing game based on Assassin's Creed.

Assassin's Creed board games already exist: Assassin's Creed Arena by Cryptozoic, themed offshoots of Monopoly or Risk, orlog as a decoupling from the Assassin's Creed part Valhalla and even a "real" board game is available on the market, soon even in German: Assassin's Creed - Brotherhood of Venice. CMON is now filling a gap and bringing out an official tabletop role-playing game.

Assassin's Creed: Neverending Stories

CMON has snapped up the license and is now working on a pen and paper title Assassin's Creed. Francesco Nepitello, head of the brand and role-playing department, is responsible for the project. The idea: players create their own characters - the modern versions. You then experience the stories of the assassins from the past or their ancestors. Several assassins will be created to complete missions.

The Animus network is of course also part of the idea. An animus operator directs the adventures: he designs the scenes and guides the players through the stories.

CMON cautions: "Fans of the video game can expect an in-depth look at a wealth of lore and storytelling drawn directly from the core lineage of the series as well as the more than two dozen spin-off games."

There will be a deluxe set of role-playing books, as well as expanding content and character miniatures.

"Bringing Assassin's Creed to a tabletop RPG is an exciting challenge with near-endless potential," said Francesco Nepitello. Nepitello is not wrong with his assessment: Although the previous parts of the Assassin's Creed series have always specified the theme worlds, in a pen-and-paper role-playing game, players can be creative themselves. This also includes designing your own missions or storylines. The tabletop role-playing game with its Animus idea could thus play Assassin's Creed in every imaginable epoch.

"There are many game developers at Ubisoft whose passion for game design and world building was sparked by playing board games and pen and paper RPGs," said Aymar Azaizia, Transmedia and Business Development Director at Ubisoft Montréal. The studio is the birthplace of the Ubisoft video game brand around the assassins. There they had developed Assassin's Creed, the first part of the long gaming series, which was published in 2007.

According to CMON, the Assassin's Creed RPG will be available for pre-order in 2023.
