God of War will be continued - albeit differently than some games fans might think. The publisher CMON, based in Singapore, apparently wants to develop a board game from the brand, as was recently surprisingly indicated when the annual report was presented.
Later this year there will probably be news about the board game based on God of War, because CMON also presented the plans for the year 2023 in its annual report with the number presentation. Accordingly, they not only want to bring out games based on their own brands, but also titles for A Song of Ice and Fire and God of War.
God of War as a miniatures game?
CMON did not give any further details about the indicated God of War board game, but it will probably be a miniature game. For several reasons: On the one hand, the brand flatters itself for this, on the other hand, CMON had previously developed board games for video game brands as miniature games, such as Cyberpunk 2077.
CMON should still hold the license anyway, after all they had already published a God of War card game around four years ago - in 2019 - which was available in this country Asmodee has appeared. From this it can be deduced that the new board game for God of War will most likely make its way onto the German market and into regular stores. There are no licensing problems.
Due to the lack of information, it is also completely unclear how CMON will finance the God of War board game. Here too, we can only make assumptions - and given the history of other board games from the publisher, they clearly point towards crowdfunding. More accurate: Kickstarter.
God of War is one of a number of adaptations based on popular video game series: There are now board games for Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Monster Hunter World and Horizon: Zero Dawn, among others.
CMON expects to release new information about the God of War board game in the coming months.
