The CCXP Cologne has been canceled this year due to the corona pandemic. However, fans don't have to do without one of the highlights of the German edition of the comic convention: the Cosplay Championship. Instead of physically on site, connoisseurs can virtually vote for their favorites and support their favorite cosplay.
That was a surprise Cancellation of the CCXP Cologne 2020 not. The action of the organizers, who could not have acted otherwise on the decree of the NRW state government, was necessary and required. Major events are prohibited until October 31st. There is still a bit of a comic convention feeling for fans, albeit reduced to a single event. As the makers of CCXP Cologne announce, the Cosplay Championship will take place virtually - and the ten finalists have already been determined.
Top-class cosplay championship
The cosplay competition is top-class this year. And there is also a new feature: Among other things, we are looking for the best cosplay in four categories. Prizes from Pfaff sewing machines and Cosplayflex await the winners.
The event is also global: more than 100 international cosplayers from 15 countries on four continents responded to the call - their teeth are now in the final. In addition to the jury's decision, this year there is also, for the first time, the opportunity for the community to award their favorite cosplay.
In the final, their ideas compete against each other: Caio CDK, Erza Cosplay, In.Sain.I, Krystl Cosplay, Kurichan, Magic Wardrobe NL, Samui San, Sumi Cosplay, Vega Cosplay and Wasteland Weber. They are about the coolest armor, "Best Armor" is the official name of the competition category.
Everything that the games and entertainment sector has to offer is thematically included: medieval, fantasy, sci-fi or cyberpoint - it doesn't matter: the main thing is brightly colored, detailed and ostentatious. Only real "armor builders", i.e. cosplayers who use 3D printing or materials such as EVA or Worbla for their costumes, are awarded in this category.
There are also other jury competition categories, such as "Best Costume" for everyone who prefers to sew and dress in robes than in thermoplastic. “Best in Show”, on the other hand, is about the most impressive overall performance. Fans can vote for the community award, which is being presented for the first time. An expert jury consisting of Ben aka Maul Cosplay, Elien aka Liechee and Mirjam aka Tingilya Cosplay will advise on the final performance. All connoisseurs and experts of the scene.
The cosplay competition at least bridges the waiting time for the next fair. The CCXP Cologne 2021 will then take place from June 25th to 27th - then again on site in the halls of Koelnmesse and with cosplay on the main stage of the "Thunder Theater".
