Bungie announced details and immediate pre-order availability for the upcoming Destiny 2: Final Form expansion, releasing on February 2, 27, at its annual Destiny 2024 Showcase event. During the event, the studio revealed new gameplay and story elements that will power the final Destiny 2 expansion in the light and dark saga.
It also revealed key features that will be introduced to the game over the next year and beyond. Additionally, at the showcase event, Bungie announced the launch of Episodes, a new concept for seasonal content that details events after The Final Form and forms the basis for additional stories and content for Destiny 2. The first episode, “Echoes,” will begin shortly after Destiny 2: Final Form launches in March 2024.
The studio also introduced the new Destiny 2 season, “Season of the Witch,” which launches worldwide today. In the Season of the Witch, the Guardians turn to their long-time ally Eris Morn. Together they attempt to use arcane Hive magic to track down the witness who has invaded the Traveler.
Destiny 2: The Final Form
In Destiny 2: Final Form, the Guardians face extinction at the hands of their ultimate enemy - the Witness. They are accompanied by their iconic vanguard companions Ikora Rey, Commander Zavala and the mysteriously returned Cayde-6. The Guardians embark on an adventurous journey into the heart of the traveler, mobilize the vanguard and put an end to the war of light and darkness. The story of this final confrontation will be told over the course of The Final Form campaign and in the new raid coming in March 2024.
Coinciding with the start of the raid, a new race for World's First will take place, starting on the day of the raid. Fireteams around the world are racing to be the first team of six Guardians to fully complete the new raid.
Inside the traveler
During The Final Form campaign, Guardians explore a mysterious new destination - the Pale Heart, located within the Traveler. Inspired by the Witness but also influenced by the Guardians' past and career, The Pale Heart contains nostalgic throwbacks to the history of the saga of light and darkness, including a version of the original tower from Destiny. As the first linear destination in Destiny's history, Pale Heart will evolve gradually.
In addition to a new campaign and destination, as well as a reunion of iconic characters brought together to face the threat of the Witness, The Final Form expansion features three new Super Abilities and Aspects (Void for Titans, Solar for Warlocks, and Arc for hunters), each of which is designed for team play. Additionally, the Destiny 2 arsenal will become even more powerful with new additions, including a new weapon subfamily consisting of a rocket pistol and a new support auto rifle that deals damage while healing allies. Classics from the first Destiny also return, including a new exotic fusion rifle.

The Guardians use these weapons against a powerful new enemy type - the Subjugators - who are able to use Stasis and Strand against the Guardians while creating an element of control on the battlefield.
Destiny 2 developers also revealed details about features coming next year, including an improved power system that will make it easier for Guardians of different power levels to participate in activities together. The Fireteam Finder feature (coming November 2023) is designed to help players find other Guardians with whom they can participate in in-game activities. There were also PvP updates, including the new Vex map “Multiplex,” a new Relic-based game mode, and the new Checkmate modifier.

Before the opening of today's showcase event, a moment of silence was held for Lance Reddick, who passed away in March. Reddick's graceful performance as the English-language voice actor of Zavala has created an inspiring fan-favorite character in the Destiny universe. Earlier this month, Bungie announced that film and TV actor Keith David would be taking on the role of Zavala, allowing the character's story to continue in The Final Form. Additionally, film and TV actor Nathan Fillion announced his return to the Destiny franchise in May as the voice of hunter Cayde-6.
The introduction of episodes
At the showcase event, Bungie unveiled the new episodic format for Destiny 2, which will launch in March 2024, shortly after the launch of The Final Form. Replacing the current seasonal model, Episodes are a new way of storytelling and content creation. There will be three separate episodes in 2024: Echoes, Revenants and Heresy. The first episode starts in March.
Each episode will be a stand-alone story told in three acts, exploring the aftermath and impact of the events at the end of the saga of light and darkness, while introducing more content and rewards - more frequently than previous Destiny 2 seasons .

Season of the Witch
The latest Destiny 2 season – Season of the Witch – starts today. In the Season of the Witch, the Guardians continue their pursuit of the Witness, encountering old allies and enemies along the way. Savathûn's spirit Immaru proposes a deal: he demands help in reviving the Witch Queen and help in the fight against her sister Xivu Arath. In return, Savathûn is said to reveal the path to the portal through which one enters the interior of the Traveler, where the Witness prepares to create the final form. Harnessing the arcane magic of the Hive, the Guardians help their ally Eris Morn prepare to fight the Hive Goddess of War by transforming herself into a Hive Goddess.

At the heart of Season of the Witch is the new Deck of Whispers - a new player progression system that allows Guardians to customize their equipment and powers in new ways. Completing seasonal activities gives you cards that you can use to build a custom deck full of buffs and perks for specific activities. Fireteam members have the opportunity to strategically decide which cards to take with them to increase their combat effectiveness on each run.
Timeline review
In addition to the adventure and action of Season of the Witch, the Destiny 2 development team is introducing several new features that will enhance the Guardians' experience throughout the game. One of these features is the timeline review. Accessible through the Timeline feature in the Navigator, these short missions provide brief narrative introductions and summaries of major events in Destiny 2. With the launch of Season of the Witch, three Timeline Review missions are available, including Cayde-6's final showdown with the Scorn from Destiny 2: Forsaken, the Stasis debut from Destiny 2: Beyond Light, and the emergence of the Radiant Host from Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. These missions are available for free to everyone.
Revamped Raid: Crota's End
Season of the Witch also brings with it a reboot of a raid from Destiny's past: Crota's End. Crota's ending was originally introduced shortly after Destiny's release in 2014. In Crota's End, the Guardians must traverse the lunar landscape to enter the Hellmouth and defeat Oryx's son once and for all.
Crota's End kicks off on September 1st, and to celebrate, Bungie is hosting a Race for World's First to honor and reward the first fireteam to successfully complete the newly revamped raid. Fireteams around the world have 48 hours to complete the Raid in Competitive Mode, complete Crota's End in Challenge Mode, and earn the Superior Swordplay Triumph. The first fireteam to complete all encounters, loot the final chest, and return to orbit after completing Challenge Mode will be named World's First and awarded World's First Raid Belts for Crota's End.
Season of the Witch starts today and ends November 28th.
The “The Witch Queen” demo weekend
Those new to the Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion can try it out for free during the upcoming demo weekend from August 24th to 27th. Discover the groundbreaking campaign in which the Guardians explore the throne world of Savathûn and encounter the light-bearing Radiant Host.
