Due to the current Covid pandemic, most families spend their time in their homes. Boredom spreads and becomes an ordeal. But role and board games can be a welcome distraction for small and large grumblers. The games provide a lot of entertainment and bring you the joy back into family life. While we have often reported about adult crowdfunding games, this post is now aimed entirely at families.

For example, young publishers can use crowdfunding to finance their game projects. A large number of people “crowd” support a selected project financially, such as board, card or Roleplaying games. This approach is also called crowdfunding. Reputable online platforms such as are suitable for crowdfunding Kickstarter, the Spieleschmiede or Game On Tabletop.

Current board games for families in crowdfunding

As a rule, a minimum amount is determined in advance of the funding project, which must be reached within a certain period of time so that the game project can be realized. If this amount is not reached, all supporters get their money back. Funds that exceed this amount are mostly used to achieve stretch goals. These are exclusive additions such as dice towers, miniatures or art prints.

Families can easily come into contact with one another through analogue play. Without any electronic devices, these are a fun way to spend time together. This is an underestimated issue, especially in times of social distancing.

"Creature Comforts" is a sugar-sweet worker placement that tells the players the story of an animal family that begins in spring to prepare their homes for the next winter. For this purpose, the animal members diligently collect the necessary resources, exchange useful things on the market and manufacture objects.

Every now and then, visitors to the Maple Valley help them with their project. Creature Comforts is suitable for 1-5 players, ages 8+. The new title from the expert publishing house for children and family games, Kids Table Board Gaming, was launched on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in mid-November and was financed a short time later. Today, December 3rd, almost all of the stretch goals were achieved. Board Game Circus will bring out a German retail version of the family game.

Also in mid-November wentHarry Potter: Catch the snitch - a wizards sport board game" from KnightGames at Kickstarter to the start. The game for two players, ages eight and up, comes to the players' homes with miniatures from the Hogwarts world and revolves around the "Pottery" sport of Quidditch. Lovers of JK Rowling's stories know that a game of ball sports requires a Quaffle, two Bludgers and a Golden Snitch.

So also with Harry Potter: Catch the snitch - a wizards sport board game. In the miniatures game for families, two Quidditch teams compete on a colorful field that is reminiscent of American football. The aim is to get the Quaffle into the opposing goal and catch the golden snitch. Meanwhile, players should avoid the flying Bludgers so as not to risk a crash landing. You can choose from the teams: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. The Harry Potter board game for families was funded on the crowdfunding platform a short time after its project start - including a number of stretch goals. The board game should also be available as a German-language version in the future.

The family game Twinkle from V-Games brings the night sky to the table at home. As a star designer, it is the player's job to fill the night sky with colorful stars. To do this, they create star images from colorful cubes and according to predetermined tasks.

The dice placed must always show a lower result than the previously placed dice. Which makes laying a picture a tricky endeavor. A game of Twinkle is played in 7 game rounds. In the meantime, all players collect points by their star constellations and the fulfillment of certain conditions. The cosmic project for the board game Twinkle was on Kickstarter, as of today, Thursday, December 03rd, not yet fully funded. The dice game contains a German-language set of rules.

Little Wizards is a role-playing game for children that was penned by the game designer Antoine Bauza and published by the German publisher Green Gorilla. The narrative game can be found on the Game On Tabletop platform and has already been funded.

In addition, some of the stretch goals for Little Wizards unlocked. The role-playing game for children from six years of age is played cooperatively and encourages them to invent fantastic stories. While creativity, social and emotional skills as well as memory are trained on the side, the little heroes immerse themselves in a world full of witches and wizards, which takes place in the world of coins, hidden in the magical expanse of the stars.
