The board game classic Judge Dredd gets a new edition. This time it doesn't come from Games Workshop, but from Rebellion Unplugged. The game can already be pre-ordered for 45 euros.

When the Stallone classic Judge Dredd hit the cinemas in 1995, the board game based on the comic book was already much older. The board game already has around 40 under its belt – at that time Games Workshop published the original version from 1982. This year Rebellion will be unplugged – the makers behind it Sniper Elite: The Board Game - the board game Judge Dredd: The Game of Crime Fighting in Mega-City One now republish.

Judge Dredd on the gaming table: Old becomes new

Games Workshop founder Sir Ian Livingstone designed the board game at the time. At some point it became quieter about the hero, who only received new impetus with the Stallone film of the same name. Several board games based on the hero from the 2000 AD comics have appeared over the years, including a Judge Dredd miniatures game. It is also one of the newer works based on the license - Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter was written by Martin Wallace and was only released in 2019 via Osprey Games.

Today, despite occasional short revivals, Judge Dredd is at best known from a remake that was received with mixed feelings by critics and fans alike. The publisher Rebellion Unplugged is now taking on the brand again: Judge Dredd: The Game of Crime Fighting in Mega-City One is aimed at two to six players in games lasting around 90 minutes who patrol the city to fight gangs and other baddies. You take action against your opponents with action cards and dice. Still, there is only one winner. Whoever defeated the most villains wins at the end.

The new edition should also cause a sensation, especially visually. Because: For the illustrations of the cards, the classic comic art of Ian Gibson and Brian Bolland is used.

The remake of the Judge Dredd board game is basically the old version, but according to Rebellion there is an unplugged expansion "Specialist Judges". Included are six specialized judges, each with their own skills. However, something is happening, albeit at a detailed level: the new edition of the board game contains revised rules for faster gameplay, updated cards and revised coloring for the graphics.

Pre-orders for Judge Dredd: The Game of Crime Fighting in Mega-City One are available on the Rebellion Unplugged website. The board game will officially go on sale in November for 45 euros.
