The board game Life in Reterra by Eric M. Lang has won an important award. As the first board game ever, the project was awarded the "FSC Leadership Award 2024" - it is not about the quality of the game, but about responsible forest management.

“Life in Reterra has just been awarded the FSC Leadership Award 2024, making it the first board game ever to receive this prestigious award,” the publisher said. Hasbro, who distributes the board game.

The FSC Leadership Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the use of FSC-certified products and materials and commitment to responsible forest management. They recognize outstanding achievements in various sectors, including advocacy, conservation and individual leadership within the FSC community. Paper and wood from well-managed FSC-certified forests, recycled materials and other controlled sources were used.

Hasbro: "We are very proud"

“We are very proud that a game inspired by ecological succession is the first board game to receive an FSC Leadership Award,” writes Hasbro.

Developed by award-winning game designers Eric Lang and Ken Gruhl in collaboration with Hasbro Gaming, Life in Reterra is a community rebuilding adventure game. In Life in Reterra, players rebuild communities in a post-apocalyptic setting using materials from the past. The board game's premise: In the not-too-distant future, the world is an overgrown memory. Although the world has changed, we have changed with it, and are using whatever we can find to build a new way of life. It's up to each player to build their own community.

To do this, they first choose one of three ready-to-play theme kits. They then take turns laying out tiles that represent different terrains and filling them with buildings and inhabitants to create a community. The better a player's community thrives, the more points they receive.

Building cards unlock powers that help players score more points, and players can revamp the game each time by creating their own sets of buildings. You interact with other players and even disrupt them to slow their progress. In the end, it's simple: the highest score wins.

Life in Reterra is aimed at two to four players aged ten and over and is available for a retail price of 34,99 euros.
