Regardless of the cute illustrations of the forest creatures, Root - The Roleplaying Game is about nothing less than power, influence and war. The pen & paper roleplaying game is based on the award-winning board game Root - A Game of Power and Justice in the Woodland, which was published by Leder Games in 2018. While in the Area Majority game different factions of anthropomorphic animals fight for influence in the woodland, the roleplaying game for three to six players aged twelve and over focuses on a group that was represented in the board game by just one figure: the vagabonds who move on the fringes of civilized society.
Adventure in a conflict-ridden forest
With changing loyalties, they can influence the fate of the woodland in an indefinite way. They roam the woodland to experience adventures, complete quests and, if necessary, make the difference in the larger conflict between the other factions - including the Eyrie dynasties, the Marquisate and the Woodland Alliance. The line between villainous and heroic behavior is not always clear.
With the core rulebook, the woodland deck, the equipment deck and the dice set, Pegasus Spiele has now released all the components needed for an adventure in the conflict-torn woodland. The core rulebook, which is based on the Powered by the Apocalypse rulebook, offers, among other things, nine unique role books that support character creation, as well as detailed tips on running the game of Root - The Roleplaying Game.
To make it easier to populate the setting of the adventures, the Woodland Deck features 55 cards newly designed by board game illustrator Kyle Ferrin, providing just as many Woodland residents, complete with personality traits, stats, and ready-to-play missions for the wandering player characters. The Equipment Deck also includes 55 illustrated cards, providing 35 weapons and other equipment, complete with stats and special features, and 20 cards with all weapon moves.
Starting in spring 2025, the forest land and world of Root will continue to grow with additional products, inviting you to even greater adventures.
