Federal Transport and Digital Minister Andreas Scheuer will open Gamescom 2019 this year together with State Minister for Digitization Dorothee Bär. Both politicians will speak on August 20 as part of the opening act and then take part in a tour of the exhibition halls.
Federal Minister Andreas Scheuer and Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär will speak at the opening of Gamescom on August 20 and then take part in the opening tour. In addition to Scheuer und Bär, Dr. Joachim Stamp, Deputy Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia and Minister for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration and Cologne's Mayor Henriette Reker welcomed the opening ceremony. During the tour that follows, the political guests will be informed about the latest trends in the games industry and the highlights of this year's gamescom.
The opening event of Gamescom will take place on August 20th at 10.30 a.m. in the Konrad-Adenauer-Saal of the Congress Center North. The event is only open to invited guests and journalists accredited for gamescom.
“We are very pleased to welcome Andreas Scheuer, the federal minister responsible for games funding, to the opening of gamescom in Cologne. Here we want to discuss the right framework conditions for the games industry in Germany together with Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär and the other political guests and give an overview of the current trends in our medium. "Felix Falk, Managing Director of game - Association of the German Games Industry
Andreas Scheuer's visit should also be particularly interesting because the federal government has not provided any funding for the developers in its draft budget for 2020. Dorothee Bär, however, recently announced that she still wanted to save the games funding. The Minister of State for Digitization wants to campaign for funding. It is possible to postpone the measure in the parliamentary procedure.
There may also be references to the reasons for the cancellation of the funds as part of the speeches at Gamescom 2019. So far it has been speculated that the funding has been put on hold because of the ECJ's decision against a toll. So far, however, nobody has wanted to confirm this.
