Federal Transport and Digital Minister Andreas Scheuer will open Gamescom 2019 this year together with State Minister for Digitization Dorothee Bär. This is announced by the German Games Industry Association (game) and Koelnmesse GmbH. Both politicians will speak on August 20 as part of the opening act and then take part in a tour of the exhibition halls.
Federal Minister Andreas Scheuer and Digital State Minister Dorothee Bär will speak at the opening of Gamescom on August 20th and then take part in the opening tour. In addition to Scheuer and Bär, Dr. Joachim Stamp, Deputy Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia and Minister for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration, and Cologne's Mayor Henriette Reker will also welcome guests at the opening. During the subsequent tour, the political guests will be informed about the current trends in the games industry and the highlights of this year's gamescom informed.
The opening event of Gamescom will take place on August 20th at 10.30 am in the Konrad-Adenauer-Saal of the Congress-Centrum Nord. The event is only for invited guests and for the gamescom accessible to accredited journalists.

Andreas Scheuer's visit should also be particularly interesting because the federal government has not provided any funding for the developers in its draft budget for 2020. Dorothee Bär, however, recently announced that she still wanted to save the games funding. The Minister of State for Digitization wants to campaign for funding. It is possible to postpone the measure in the parliamentary procedure.
There may be some discussion during the speeches at the Gamescom 2019 also provided clues as to the reasons for the cancellation of the funds. There has been speculation so far that the funding was put on hold because of the ECJ decision against a toll. However, no one has yet wanted to confirm this.
