Axon Protocol, the debut work of the Stuttgart-based indie publisher Baroque Games, went on November 22 on Kickstarter live and reached its funding goal within two days. We took a closer look at the project and share our opinion on it.
Axon Protocol is, as Baroque Games calls it, a 2-6 player shared worker control game in which we take on the role of hackers of an international mega-corporation. Our goal is to hack into the brains of innocent citizens and manipulate their behavior in order to extract as many resources from the city as possible and maximize the profits of our corporation.
For this we activate one of 30 different characters and either use their routine or hack him to use one of his skills. This allows us to generate resources, kill characters that our competition uses and attack them with so-called software cards. Software cards represent programs or computer viruses that can attack specific targets for us, counter an enemy attack, or help the corporation achieve its goal.
At the end of the game, the company with the most victory points and thus the most resources wins.
Crowdfunding successful
Axon Protocol brings with it a real dystopian feel and I like that. The campaign already has over 300 supporters, which is already a great success for a first work. There is still time until December 22nd, the Baroque Games team at their promising Kickstarter project to support. For as little as 54 euros you can immerse yourself in the dystopian world of Axon Protocol.
For 15 euros more you get numerous deluxe components that take the gaming experience to another level. In addition to character figures made of acrylic instead of cardboard, you also get double-layered player boards, wood resources and card sleeves. If you want to appear as a character in the game, you can also dig deeper into your pocket and become a character in the game for 295 euros. However, you have to be very quick here, because today there is only one pledge of this variety possible.
Undecided? – Test it!
If you are still undecided, Baroque Games also offers one digital trial version on Tabletopia on. Here you can test the game as you please and see if Axon Protocol would be something for you - and it's all free.
Promising campaign
Baroque Games currently has a really good one with Axon Protocol Kampagne running in which it is fun to follow along. New stretch goals are released daily that will find their way into the finished game. In addition, new characters are added to the game with the social goals, which increases the replay appeal immensely.
Anyone who can already get started with the cyberpunk setting will certainly like it a lot here. If you are still unsure, you can simply follow the campaign and possibly finance the game Late Pledge. In October 2023, Axon Protocol should then arrive at the supporters.
The second game is already being planned for the future. This is called Oblivion Rebellion and is currently in the playtesting phase. For new information, you are welcome to visit the Baroque Games home page drop by.
