The board game brand Arkham Horror is getting a digital adaptation: In contrast to classic digital board games, Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace will be a real video game. Like the French publisher Asmodee Digital has announced that the title will be released in 2021 Nintendo Switch, PC Steam, Playstation 4 and Xbox One appear.
Asmodee Digital has already brought popular brands onto the market as digital adaptations, this time they are more or less breaking new ground. Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace will be a real video game based on playing Fantasy Flight Games next year. At least rudimentary borrowings are recognizable as parlor games: in the new video game based on HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu myth, turn-based battles - and thus tactics and strategy - are the focus of the game.
Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace is Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace
The new video game Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace has already been announced under the title Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace and is a narrative adventure game in which players control a team of investigators. A mixture of exploration, investigation and tactical combat phases is the focus of this essentially role-playing game. The setting is of course based on the Lovecraft universe. Originally, the video game was supposed to appear under the name Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace in early 2019, and the title was officially announced in spring 2018. Now it should be launched in the coming year. However, there is no exact release date.
Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace is set in 1926. A professor of astronomy is found dead in her mansion, the woman the apparent victim of murder. The players put together their team of twelve of the most famous protagonists of the Arkham horror universe to solve the case - and to uncover the mysteries. As in the board game template, each investigator has unique skills. The story also plays a central role and processes Lovecraft-like supernatural and psychological topics.
The gameplay, including the embedding of the Cthulhu myth, works in the video game with impairments to mental health. When investigators face the horrors, they will descend into the depths of madness, causing trauma that affects the course of their investigation.
In addition to the pure investigative work and the narrative elements, turn-based battles against a number of enemies are the main focus. Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace was developed by LuckyHammers, but Artefacts Studio is now responsible for the game. The game will cost around 20 euros.
