Cole Wehrle and Kyle Ferrinas are no strangers to the board game world. The top titles Root and Oath are their work. Now the author duo has worked its magic again. The result was the crowd-funded Kickstarter "Arcs". A science fiction game in which a crumbling space empire must be kept alive and defended against other rulers. The board game was announced for the end of September 2024 by Leder Games. A German version of the title is scheduled to be released by Spielworxx in the second quarter of 2.
The description of the new leather game title Arcs is reminiscent of sci-fi strategy games like Twilight Imperium or Star Wars: Rebellion. But the mechanisms offer differences and the playing time is also more suitable for everyday use, with 60 to 120 minutes per game.
What counts in Arcs, it seems, is the right mix of smart decisions, skilful management of hand cards and resources, a constant overview of the game and a bit of luck. The core of the game is a trick-taking mechanism that offers plenty of scope for tactics. The game is played in five rounds/chapters that require different goals/ambitions that the players compete against each other to achieve.

In the battles of Arcs, the dice decide. The prerequisite for taking part in a galactic battle is to own one of the various operational spaceships. The dice should be collected according to your own battle plan. They offer the player three types of attack: low damage (bombing), high damage (attack) and stealing resources (raid). What seems tricky is that, in addition to the advantages for the attacker, playing the dice always has negative consequences for both parties.
The Pledge campaign expansion “Blighted Reach” will offer three epic games of two hours each in addition to the base game. Pre-orders of the Arcs base game are available on the homepage of Leder games in English and at a price of 60 USD plus shipping costs. Shipping is planned for the end of September 2024. A German-language edition is scheduled to be available in the second quarter of 2025. Spielworxx is responsible for localization. Arcs is recommended for three to four players aged 14 and over.
