Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, being developed simultaneously for PC and console, is the first RTS to bring to life the Mortal Realms of Games Workshop's expansive fantasy universe. The single-player campaign is set in Ghur, the savage realm of beasts, and follows a delegation from the Stormforged Eternals. They are trying to capture a powerful artifact and save their fortress settlement from the invading Orruk Moor Stalkers who live in the swamps.
As the story begins, the Stormforged Eternals venture to Ghur and, after a perilous journey, reach the location where the artifact is located - only to find it bound in the ethereal chains of the Night Spook. The servants of Nagash will unleash a storm of spirits to defend it.
In Realms of Ruin, the Night Spook brings swarms of ghostly apparitions and fiendish terrors to the battlefield, gaining an advantage through their sheer numbers. The servants of the night haunter not only appear as antagonists in the campaign, but are also fully playable in conquest mode and multiplayer mode. They feature a wide range of units inspired by their tabletop counterparts.

In Conquest mode, players face a variety of randomly generated challenges in order to achieve the highest possible high score. They engage in individual 1v1 skirmishes across a larger map before engaging in a final battle to complete the run. But not everything is as it seems: innovative twists are reshaping the conditions of conflict.
These changes can dramatically alter the team's vision, increase unit movement speed, or introduce strict time constraints that take the challenge to new levels. Players must decide whether to increase their bonus modifier or earn additional lives as they battle for the highest possible score across the map. Each run in Conquest Mode is based on a seed that can be shared with other players.
