There have been rumors for many months, and now THQ Nordic has confirmed what fans have hoped and industry insiders have predicted: Titan Quest 2 is coming. The action role-playing game about heroes and monsters from Greek mythology is celebrating a comeback in the graphical guise of the Unreal Engine 5.
It was 2006 when an action role-playing game from Iron Lore Entertainment came onto the market that used a setting that was new at the time: Greek mythology. Antiquity was a difficult subject to tackle, only found in the strategy or simulation sector at the time and thus ultimately underrepresented in the games sector. Titan Quest was to lay the foundation for an adventure journey that has found numerous imitators to this day. Given the success of the game, it seemed unthinkable, especially in the wake of the recent boom in remakes and sequels, that a successor title would not be developed. In 2021, the first rumors emerged, but they could not be confirmed. And now - bang: Titan Quest 2 has been officially announced.
Titan Quest 2 at the THQ Nordic showcase
THQ Nordic has a Gamescom-appearance in 2023, but did not miss the opportunity to present the highlights of the coming years as part of a short showcase. The official announcement of Titan Quest 2 was part of the trailer show. And the developers are apparently remembering the strengths of its predecessor: The game world should once again be open and handmade, the story is based on the exciting mythology of a disguised Greek antiquity. This time, game fans will have to deal with the goddess of vengeance: Nemesis.
The dual class system, a real novelty at the time, returns in Titan Quest 2. Players will once again be able to develop their characters into a combat class using two skill lines. There will also be German voice acting, and Titan Quest 2 should also be a visual treat. The developers are using the Unreal Engine 5 to bring Ancient Greece back to life on the screen. This is in keeping with the fact that the game has been announced for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
No strangers are at work here - it's the developers from Grimlore Games, who previously worked on Spellforce 3 and the expansions Soul Harvest and Fallen God. So it's clear: Titan Quest 2 is being developed in Germany! To be more precise: in Munich, because that's where the team of around 40 people is based. Under the code name "Minerva", an action role-playing game with a top-down perspective had been developed there for some time, in which players immerse themselves in an ancient world - this fueled the rumors about Titan Quest 2. These now turn out to be true.
Blizzard is probably getting really nervous now, as Diablo 4 will now have additional competition from Path of Exile 2.
It is still unclear when exactly Titan Quest 2 will be released. However, on the corresponding Steam page you can already find the title on the add to wishlist and also take a look at some screenshots that give a first taste of the look.
