The new open world adventure Star Wars Outlaws is not off to a particularly good start with fans: the scene is annoyed about the prices for the “Gold Edition” and the “Ultimate Edition”.
It could have been so nice: A new Star Wars game comes onto the market, everyone is excited. Done. In the case of Star Wars Outlaws, however, it is different. The reason is the prices charged by publisher Ubisoft for the two special editions of the video game.
Star Wars Outlaws: Prices up to 130 euros
Over the past few years, publishers have noticeably increased their prices for video games. The "standard investment" for a AAA game is now around 70 euros if you want to play it on the Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X, for example. If the game offers what the makers previously promised, you can definitely go along with the prices - after all, there are very few things in the world that have not become more expensive.
ppel and in return offer hardly any more features, it angers the fans. This recently happened in the case of Star Wars Outlaws. The new open world game will be released on August 30, 2024, and is now getting a lot of negative headlines long before the official release. The specific reason for this is the "Gold Edition" of the game for 109,99 euros and the "Ultimate Edition" for 129,99 euros. Both are much too expensive, fans think. Some say on social media that the price is excessive, other publishers would give you collector's editions with physical goodies, such as sculptures, for such amounts. Star Wars Outlaws is available for 110 euros for the basic game, three days' early access to the game and the season pass; for around 130 euros you get two DLCs and a digital art book. That's it. Of course, there's a lot of work involved in creating a graphic book, but the bottom line is that it's still just a PDF file. Fans are therefore annoyed by the meager features, especially in the most expensive of the three available versions.
With the "Gold Edition", the contents of the season pass can still be considered worthwhile for an additional price of 40 euros. But some fans are bothered by this too. Because: They "just want a single-player game without any further monetary obstacles".
Sometimes fans take a pragmatic view. Some want to wait a little longer to buy and speculate that Star Wars Outlaws will be significantly cheaper after a few months. The chances of this are good. If you look at Assassin's Creed: Mirage, you can see a price reduction of more than ten euros in some cases. The new release can be bought for around 37 to 40 euros. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is also available at a discount, as is the new Price of Persia: The Lost Crown. What applies to these titles does not only apply to Ubisoft games. Fans who can muster a little patience pay noticeably less for the new releases a few months - sometimes just a few weeks - after release.
