Games fair postponed: Play it! in Duisburg now in summer 2021

As the organizing Nostheide Verlag has announced, the games fair will find a game! now taking place in summer. The corona situation makes it unlikely that it will take place earlier, so it was decided to postpone it early. According to the publisher, the alternative date is set once in the summer months. 

The third edition of the analogue, especially aimed at families and casual gamers Games fair Play it! in Duisburg had to be postponed from March 2020 to the end of March 2021 this year due to the corona pandemic. The organizers are now informing that this date is also likely to be set too early for the public exhibition to take place.

NRW Prime Minister urges measures

The announcement about the renewed postponement of the game! does not come as a surprise. It was only this morning that NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet announced tough measures to contain the pandemic. Accordingly, its not to keep the easing on the Christmas days, the partial lockdown did not bring the desired result. Around 600 deaths and almost 30.000 infections were registered nationwide - new highs.

Even the game! Nostheide Verlag, which organizes the event in Duisburg, no longer assumes that the situation will improve by spring to the extent that a public fair can be held in March: "It can now be assumed that next March, under the official specifications and general framework conditions, no such a large public event can be carried out sensibly as long as the number of infections does not change significantly or vaccinations are carried out on a large scale," says Jan-Philipp Nostheide.

The publisher had already made provisions and reserved an alternative date at the venue, the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park, in good time. The game! 2021 is now to take place from June 25th to 27th.

This measure is unique and serves to facilitate planning. Jan-Philipp Nostheide explains: "In order to make further planning easier for everyone involved, the Spiel! So in 2021 it was not held on its usual March date, but once in 2021 on this June weekend.”
