The mobile operator Congstar and the initiative Gaming without Borders will present the award on Wednesday, 23 August, from 15 p.m. Gamescom for the first time the Gaming without Borders Award, which recognizes special commitment in the field of gaming and inclusion. The e-sports journalist Melek Balgün moderates the awards ceremony, which takes place at the barrier-free Congstar exhibition stand in Hall 9.1.
Gaming should be accessible to as many people as possible. At the same time, inclusion-promoting features, products and technologies are of great importance in order to enable people with disabilities to have the most barrier-free gaming experience possible.
Innovative approaches to inclusion in gaming
The Gaming Without Borders Award not only recognizes particularly innovative and creative approaches in the “Award national” and “Award international” categories, but also games that make a significant contribution to the visibility of underrepresented groups in the “Representation” category. In addition, recognition is given to special controllers and software applications in the Hardware and Technology category. Last but not least, Gaming Without Borders honors an individual who is exceptionally committed to inclusion in gaming with the award in the “Personality” category.

The jury includes Linda Scholz, specialist at the Department for Youth Media Culture, and Melanie Eilert aka “melly_maeh”, ambassador for gaming without borders, as well as IT specialist Svenja Ottawa, who is blind herself and has developed barrier-free software.
For over three years, congstar has been supporting the Gaming Without Borders initiative, an important authority for gaming and inclusion in German-speaking countries. The common goal is to draw attention to the needs of gaming fans with disabilities and to promote gaming content that promotes inclusion. congstar supports the Gaming without Borders initiative as a sponsor and helps to provide the initiative with a space. In addition, congstar actively organizes its own gaming events and streams and maintains a long-term partnership with FC St. Pauli and the FC St. Pauli E-Football Team.
