The PlayStation 5, Sony's current home console, is in the final phase of its life cycle, according to the company. Looking ahead, sales are expected to decline. The question arises whether a mid-gen upgrade in the form of a possible PS5 Pro could extend the life cycle.
The PS4 Pro, which was released in 2016, was successfully launched thanks to its increased performance compared to the standard version. But what do we know about the PS5 Pro? What information is known and what about an official announcement from Sony? First of all, it should be noted that the current information about the PS5 is largely based on rumors and there has been no announcement from Sony yet.
Rumors about new PS5 version
Given the aforementioned declining sales, it is uncertain whether Sony will launch a PS5 Pro. The PS4 Pro was released three years after the PS4, while in the current generation we have already exceeded the corresponding window with the PS2020 released in 5. The initial shortage of the PS5 should also be taken into account.

Nevertheless, rumors about the PS5 Pro are growing, suggesting a possible release date for the 2024 Christmas season. Insider Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming cites anonymous internal sources in his report. He also confirms the authenticity of a document that YouTuber Moore's Law is Dead refers to in his video. According to this document, the ray tracing performance of the PS5 Pro could be increased by up to 400 percent compared to the standard model. If the video is to be believed, the performance of the PS5 Pro could be up to 67 Tflops. The performance of the standard PS5, by comparison, is 10,3 Tflops.
It is important to emphasize that this information is unconfirmed and Sony has not yet made an official statement. We will have to wait and see if the rumors about the PS5 Pro turn out to be true and what details will be revealed in the coming months.
