It's official: The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released this year. The company itself announced this and released a first video.
Short and painless - that's how you could describe the unglamorous unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 21. The rumors and official information about the successor have come true. On January 16, Nintendo itself gave a first look at the console - with a 2:21 minute long video that shows, among other things, the docking station and the magnetic Joy-Cons as well as the stand mechanism on the back.
"Nintendo Switch 2, the successor to Nintendo Switch, will be released in 2025," Nintendo said. Starting in April, the company will be reaching out to fans with so-called experience events, bringing play opportunities to several major cities around the world. You can register for this on the official website for Nintendo Switch 2 under: www.nintendo.comFor fans from Germany, the trip will take place in the capital Berlin, and perhaps for some, in Amsterdam.
Nintendo has not announced any technical details. However, the most important information is the backward compatibility: Exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 titles can be played on the Nintendo Switch 2 and “both physical and digital versions of Nintendo Switch-Play".
According to Nintendo, some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Information on this will be announced at a later date.
The company plans to provide further details about Nintendo Switch 2 in the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation, which will be shown on Wednesday, April 2nd.
