The release of the Nintendo Switch 2 has ushered in the race for records: Sales have long been flowing across all channels. And they're doing extremely well. The key question now is how close the console can come to, or perhaps even surpass, the success of its predecessor.
In the four days since its launch on June 5, Nintendo Switch 2 sold more than 3,5 million units. The console manufacturer itself announced this. This makes the new console the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware worldwide.
Nintendo Switch 2 features a larger screen with rich colors, supporting Full HD 1080p resolution. By connecting the Nintendo Switch 2 dock to a compatible TV, content can be played at up to 4K resolution. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically and can be used as a mouse in games that support it.
New games on the horizon
The console also introduces GameChat. This new feature allows players to play online with their friends and family via voice or video chat and share their game screens, creating the feeling of being in the same room—even if they're miles apart.
"Nintendo Switch 2 is the next evolutionary stage of Nintendo Switch"We're very happy and grateful that it's already been embraced by so many players across Europe," said Luciano Pereña, CEO and President of Nintendo of Europe. "We look forward to seeing Nintendo fans connect through games like Mario Kart World and share their experience with family and friends near and far."
Released on the same day as Nintendo Switch 2, Mario Kart World is the first game in the series to take place in a massive, interconnected world where players can drive anywhere. The fast-paced racing game also features dynamic weather conditions, new game modes, and races with up to 24 drivers simultaneously—more than ever before.
There's also a follow-up: Next month, Donkey Kong Bananza hits Nintendo Switch 2. In the new 3D platformer, players unleash their inner Kong and experience a truly destructive adventure starting July 17.
