Everyone is waiting for the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 – or at least for official information about the new console. A leak has now revealed that fans can look forward to a huge performance upgrade.
Nintendo has officially announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be unveiled in the coming months. Concrete information is expected to follow by March 31, 2025, and fans are eagerly awaiting it. So far, a lot is unclear: There are only rumors about the performance of the Nintendo Switch 2, only the support of so-called backward compatibility is known, but here too, without further details. Otherwise, fans are speculating about what the new console will be capable of. According to a new leak, the Switch 2 could have significantly more power than the previous model.
Nintendo Switch 2: Fat RAM plus?
If the rumors are true, the Nintendo Switch 2 will at least partially catch up with the current power consoles from Sony and Microsoft in terms of hardware. The scene assumes that the new console has been developed in line with its predecessor, at least in terms of design, but the internals could have a lot more power. However, players should not expect a computing monster, because as a hybrid console, the developers are faced with the challenge of balancing performance, battery life and cost. Fans will therefore have to make some compromises.
At least when it comes to RAM, this could be far less the case than expected. According to a leak, the Nintendo Switch 2 is said to have a whopping twelve gigabytes of RAM, which would be a major upgrade. For comparison: the Nintendo Switch only has four GB of RAM, and the Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X|S also have “only” 16 gigabytes of RAM. Nintendo Switch 2 could therefore position itself much closer to the performance consoles of its competitors than to its own predecessor – at least in terms of RAM equipment.
This would definitely have an advantage, because the random access memory ensures that more temporary files are saved and can therefore be accessed more quickly. This has a direct positive effect on gaming performance. The Nintendo Switch's meager four gigabytes of RAM were a real bottleneck, especially for computationally intensive games. The alleged RAM increase would certainly do the frame rate good. It would then also be possible to reach 60 FPS, or at least a constant 30 FPS without any significant drops.
However, it would also be clear that the Nintendo Switch 2 would continue to be weaker than the PS5 or Xbox Series. So anyone who was hoping for a surprise coup for the console, with which Nintendo wants to reduce the gap to the pure power of the competition, will be disappointed. At least if the leak turns out to be true. On the other hand, there is a consensus that the Nintendo Switch 2 will rely on its strengths in the games themselves and not just in terms of computing power to be successful. And there is little doubt that the console will be a hit again.
