Here, the company confirmed that the announcement of the console will continue to be made in the current fiscal year until the end of March 2025 – and on the platform X, President Shuntaro Furukawa now officially announced that the backwards compatibility desired by fans will actually come. The idea behind the feature: the software of the Nintendo Switch should also be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 be playable.

The same applies to the subscription service Nintendo Switch Online. This will also remain and will be fully usable for the Nintendo Switch 2.
It is unclear whether backwards compatibility will ultimately apply to all Nintendo Switch games, or only to final party titles, or whether developers will have to rework their old works.
