Everyone is waiting for details about the Nintendo Switch 2 – but a trailer for a remaster of a video game is now fueling speculation: Could Yooka-Replaylee be the first official announcement of a title?
Is Yooka-Replaylee the first real announcement of a new product for the Nintendo Switch 2? Fans say: Yes! And they are already discussing the theory on the Internet. The assumption is not just a fantasy.
Fans notice Nintendo logo
In the trailer for the remaster, some attentive players noticed at the end that the Nintendo logo was used instead of the Nintendo Switch logo. This would not be suspicious if the developers had not explicitly included the logos for PC and the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, i.e. specific game systems. This is exactly what caused great surprise - and the assumption that it could be a placeholder is entirely understandable. If we assume that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released in spring or early summer of 2025, developers must have long since started working on their video game projects for Nintendo's console successor. Listing platform logos is now mandatory for games; after all, fans want to know which systems the respective titles will ultimately be released for when new announcements are made - and in the specific case of Yooka-Replaylee, that could be the Nintendo Switch 2. There is no understandable reason to use the general Nintendo logo unless you want to send a message about missing information. The developers' message is probably: We have no alternative.
The fact is: the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming. However, it is still completely unclear what the console's technical capabilities will be. Nintendo has not yet released any official information about production or even a release.
It is hardly a coincidence that a pair of googly eyes jump from the right over the logos and stop at the Nintendo logo. See for yourself:
With Yooka-Replaylee, fans of the Nintendo Switch 2 can now expect a title that is as pretty as it is fitting for the platform concept. The potential Nintendo Switch 2 game is a remaster of the original Yooka-Laylee from 2017. Two years earlier, Playtonic Games - a studio made up of former developers of Donkey Kong Country and Banjo-Kazooie for N64 from Rare - had financed the title through crowdfunding on Kickstarter. This was extremely successful. To make the idea a reality, fans pumped over two million British pounds into the campaign. Over 70.000 backers took part in the crowdfunding. The remaster is intended to be an improved version of the original game, with new challenges, secrets and mechanics.
After the release of the trailer, fans are now even speculating that the Nintendo Switch 2 could be released sooner than previously thought. Even third-party providers have started to hype the Nintendo Switch 2, writes a user on X. He hopes that the console could therefore come onto the market at the beginning of the year.
Of course, there is no official information this time either, neither from Nintendo nor from Playtonic Games. Yooka-Replaylee does not have a release date yet - it was not mentioned in the trailer. Here too, fans are speculating: If the Nintendo Switch 2 is released next year, this could also apply to the game.
Yooka-Replaylee is not the first game that has been claimed to be the first real announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2. Titles such as My Time at Evershine are also believed to mean that the developers will release the sandbox simulation role-playing game for the console successor. This has not been officially announced, but Pathea Games stated that the new game would be released for "future Nintendo platforms" that have not yet been announced. It is also clear that Nintendo will also be keeping the well-known line-up of the popular own brands around the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. After all, it is especially the console of the Japanese entertainment company that great games that are more clearly in focus than the pure hardware.
