Publisher WizKids has announced a new board game for Star Trek fans, set to launch next year 2024. The title is Star Trek: Into the Unknown, it is a strategic miniatures game with a story campaign and solo mode.
According to WizKids, Star Trek: Into the Unknown is scheduled to hit stores in April 2024. The newly announced Star Trek miniatures game is all about detailed ships from the popular sci-fi franchise, but at its core it wants to appeal to fans of campaign games. The board game will therefore be a contrast to, for example, Star Trek: Attack Wing, which is more on the Star Wars: X-Wing concept based and puts pure tactical battles at the center of gaming.
New Star Trek game: Scale spaceships
In the new Star Trek board game, fans should negotiate alongside well-known characters as part of a story campaign, but also fight. The focus of the game concept should be space combat, but missions should also be solved through research or diplomatic actions. Important: Star Trek: Into the Unknown will also be playable as a solo game.
The spaceship miniatures should be exciting for fans. According to Wizkids, the models are designed to scale, so there will be differences in size. For example, the USS Enterprise, as a flagship, is significantly larger than other models. All miniatures will be already painted, so they can be used immediately and equipped with crew members.
The Federation vs. Dominion Base Set includes a Galaxy-class starship, a Constellation-class starship, a Defiant-class starship, a Jem'Hadar battlecruiser, two Jem'Hadar fighters, a learning guide, a rulebook, and three acrylic rows of rulers. There are also various markers and cards, including equipment and unit cards.
Star Trek: Into the Unknown is suitable for two players aged 14 and over and takes around 120 minutes per game. The publisher gives a retail price of $149,99.
