Last year, Netflix announced a film based on a popular board game: “Family Pack” is based on the social deduction board game Werewolves, but also uses the basic idea of the film Jumanji.
Admittedly, the idea is not entirely new: Jumanji already drew a group of adventurers into the world of a board game. However, the French film "Family Pack" is a little different. This time, the makers have taken inspiration from Werewolves of Mirkwood from 2001, using the basic idea originally derived from the social deduction game Mafia to let a family that finds a deck of cards travel back in time. Now a first trailer shows what film fans and board game lovers alike can look forward to.

The first trailer for Family Pack shows a family that is kidnapped into the world of the werewolves of Mirkwood and then has to find a way back home. The eponymous werewolves are, of course, one of the biggest obstacles. Jean Reno, Franck Dubosc and Suzanne Clément play the main roles in the French film directed by François Uzan. Netflix fans will probably already know Uzan: he adapted the series Lupin.
The streaming service had already announced last year that a film based on the Werewolves of Mirkwood would be released on Netflix, but after that the project remained quiet. There were no further details. Until now.
The film uses elements from the game, in which the aim is to find out who the werewolves are among the players. The creatures kill every night, thus reducing the number of players with each round. Some of the townspeople can use special skills to increase the chance of drawing successful conclusions and ultimately identifying the traitors. The basic idea of the game has since been copied many times, sometimes as a complete social deduction experience, sometimes as part of a board game idea. And the concept has even made it into the video game sector. The title "Among us" experienced a real hype at times. Ideas like this are popular primarily because they can be played in enormous gaming groups.
Family Pack is scheduled to be released on Netflix in October 2024.
