It won't be long and soon fans of the Metal Gear series will once again be able to embark on a journey through the Soviet jungle of the 60s - 20 years after the release of the original. Although the exact release date is still pending, a recent YouTube video from the official Playstation channel suggests an imminent release this year.
It has been known since last year that Konami is planning a new edition of the 2004 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. At that time, the third Metal Gear game was released in collaboration with the series' creator, Hideo Kojima, and would later sell millions of copies.
It has been clear for a long time that the remake will not be called Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Instead, Konami swaps the 3 with the delta sign (Δ), making Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater from this. Some people may like that, some may not. The basic gameplay and storyline will certainly not change as a result.
Now a YouTube video provides further information about the hotly anticipated new edition of the classic. In the approximately two-minute long film from the official Playstation channel, numerous video games are teased, which are scheduled to be released later this year. Including top-class titles like Tekken 8, Silent Hill 2 and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. But also Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater finds his place.
Konami is holding back
However, we wait in vain for an official release date from Konami. Although they revealed the first in-game scenes (pre-alpha, mind you) of the remake on their own YouTube channel months ago, they are largely holding back on providing specific information. What is clear is that Konami relies on Unreal Engine 5 and the game will be playable on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
