Homeworld 3, the upcoming sequel to the legendary, award-winning sci-fi strategy series, has announced the new roguelike-inspired multiplayer mode called “War Games” this week on the gamescom unveiled in 2023.
War Games expands the game beyond the single-player campaign with a brand new strategic co-op mode that features a creative use of roguelike gameplay mechanics. Additionally, the next evolution of storytelling in the popular RTS series was showcased in a brand new trailer that debuted at Opening Night Live 2023 earlier this week. Homeworld 3 is scheduled to launch on PC in February 2024 and the game will be available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store. It is also possible to pre-order the physical Collector's Edition.

Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing have also announced plans for modding Homeworld 3 and a partnership with mod.io. Also released was Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, a prequel to the classic Homeworld games, available for free on the Epic Games Store until August 31st. For music fans, an official Homeworld vinyl is also planned in cooperation with Laced Records.

New co-op multiplayer mode for Homeworld 3: War Games
Homeworld 3's new War Games mode offers players a highly replayable RTS experience that expands the game beyond the campaign. The War Games mode, which combines Homeworld's RTS gameplay with roguelike mechanics, can be tackled both solo and in co-op with up to three players in total.
In the mode, players will select a starting fleet and lead them in a series of three randomized combat challenges. Commanders who successfully command their fleets and complete quest objectives will be rewarded with artifacts that they can use to upgrade their ships. Players will also receive experience to unlock additional artifacts and starting fleets for new challenges. Homeworld 3's War Games mode will continue to expand post-launch with optional premium content expansions.

Modding and partnership with mod.io
Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing have partnered with mod.io to unleash the creativity of the modding community. Modders can create their own game content and then share it with other players. At launch, players will be given the tools to customize ships and create their own skirmish mode levels using the Unreal Editor. They can place megaliths, resources and other objects to create unique battlefields and give the community access to them.
Through the partnership with mod.io, curated content is made available to conveniently and easily explore the community's own creations. On both the Epic Games Store and Steam, players will be able to find and download the new community content without leaving the Homeworld 3 game client.
Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak now available for free on the Epic Games Store Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, a prequel to the classic Homeworld games, is available for free on the Epic Games Store from August 24th to 31st. In this surface RTS, players must assemble a fleet and lead it to victory in the deserts of Kharak, where danger lurks behind every dune.
Homeworld vinyl from Laced Records
Laced Records and Gearbox Entertainment have announced a partnership to release the iconic music of Homeworld Remastered and Homeworld 2 Remastered on vinyl. All music tracks have been specifically mastered for vinyl and are pressed on heavyweight vinyl.
Homeworld 3's plot revealed in new trailer
At the Opening Night Live 2023 pre-show, Blackbird Interactive (BBI) and Gearbox Publishing shared for the first time a look at the Homeworld 3 saga, set decades after the events of Homeworld 2 and the golden age of galactic prosperity. The trailer also provides a first look at the new threat to the Hiigaran fleet - the Incarnated faction. Additionally, the newly revealed character concept art introduces two new key characters: Imogen S'jet and Isaac Paktu.
