The extensive range includes exciting horror games for the Switch, such as the teen adventure thriller "Oxenfree" or the dark indie game "Cult of the Lamb", as well as a variety of other current and older horror games. So that the console storage can be filled with suspenseful material in time for Halloween, we have selected five particularly interesting titles.
Admittedly, for us video gamers, the best thing is to sweeten our free time with a long gaming session. There's something for almost every taste. From top titles with goosebumps to scary indie games. Players who want to fill their Switch playlist by the night of ghosts and horror have to be quick. Everyone else can wait until the beginning of November. That's when the Halloween sale in the Nintendo eShop ends.
- Horror game Carrion: As a tentacle monster into the carnage in pixel optics
The pixelated video game from the Metroidvania "Carrion" offers a special gameplay for fans of Halloween games. In the title, which has been rated very to extremely positively on Steam, the player does not take on the role of the victim or hero, but rather that of the evil one. More precisely, that of a monster whose body consists almost entirely of tentacles and sharp fangs. The story begins after the tentacle monster escapes from a research laboratory. From now on, it's time to go on a bloody manhunt. Because eating people secures the creature's life energy, and this needs to be constantly replenished. That sounds easier than it turns out to be as the game progresses. The human opponents are partly armed and their fighting strength increases as the game progresses. But Carrion wouldn't be a Metroidvania if obstacles didn't have to be overcome and puzzles solved at the same time in order to move through the different game sections.
The reverse horror game with a scary and puzzle factor from Phobia Game Studio and Devolver Digital was released in 2020. It currently costs 4,99 euros in the Halloween sale on the Nintendo eShop. The supernatural thriller game Oxenfree tells the story of five teenagers who meet one night on a deserted island to throw a party. Not exactly the perfect place, considering that there is supposed to be a place nearby that emits supernatural frequencies. When two curious members of the gang try to receive the frequencies with a radio, they are promptly haunted by visions. Confused, the two teenagers wake up a short time later in an abandoned radio tower and receive calls for help from their friends. One from a forest on the island and the other from a former base. From now on, it is the player's job to explore the island. In the process, he experiences time jumps and other supernatural events. Not to mention that every decision made determines the course of the teenagers' lives and the outcome of the game.
The horror game Oxenfree by Night School Studio has been available for the Switch since 2017 and is currently available for 0,99 euros in the Nintendo eShop. It has received mostly very positive reviews on Steam. The sequel OXENFREE II: Lost Signals from 2023 is available for 1,99 euros. Both offers are valid until November 6th. This video game for Halloween is worthwhile for players who love to actively influence the course of the game and the plot.

The Halloween game "Inscryption" offers fans of subtle horror an exciting mix of digital trading card and puzzle game. The player must do his best and his most malicious in card duels. In each round, cards are played from a deck. They show forest animals. The game principle follows the one familiar to TCG players: The cards have an attack value, a defense value and sometimes special abilities with which the opponent's cards must be eliminated. In the dark indie horror video game "Limbo", the player takes on the role of a nameless boy who sets out on a terrifying search for his missing sister. Completely in black and white, the game begins in a forest with no other background. During the search, in jump-and-run style, tricky puzzles must be solved, some of which were created using a physics engine specially developed for the horror game - and are quite challenging. Dangers lurk in the form of enemies and traps on the journey through the dark game world. If one of the well-hidden traps snaps shut, the boy dies in a brutal manner. However, he then respawns shortly before his time of death to give the player a new chance.
