EVE: War for New Eden – under this title the publisher Titanforge Games wants to release a board game for the space MMO Eve Online in cooperation with CCP. The associated crowdfunding campaign Kickstarter has now started - but the engine isn't running really smoothly yet.
The space MMO Eve Online has been available since 2003 - and even today, around 20 years after its initial release, the game has many fans worldwide who, despite or perhaps because of its enormous complexity, immerse themselves in the world developed by CCP Games. Thanks to a spin-off, this is now also possible on smartphones or tablets - and possibly also at the gaming table at home by the end of the year. Because: With EVE: War for New Eden, an adaptation has started crowdfunding on Kickstarter - and things are starting to look good, even if the big rocket boost didn't materialize, at least in the first few minutes.
4X video game board game
As an expert in miniatures, Titanforge Games knows how to promote board games like EVE: War for New Eden. The title will be a real battle of materials: hundreds of tokens and cards, a modular game board and tons of miniatures that were designed based on the models from the MMO Eve Online. This all looks visually impressive. However, it also has to play impressively to be considered a success.
As with many modern crowdfunding campaigns, the price is steep: at least 129 euros plus shipping are due, and taxes are already included in the prices, according to the Polish publisher Titanforge Games. The all-round carefree package costs 219 euros. If you want, you can also order the Eve online board game in twice the size – for around 400 euros. EVE: War for New Eden also remains true to the trend towards high prices for miniature games.
Titanforge Games has set the round sum of 50.000 euros as the target for crowdfunding. You stack the price deep - this is not uncommon on Kickstarter: a multiple in percentage terms above the basic amount is a nice marketing gimmick. However, it's not that far yet with EVE: War for New Eden. The board game is successfully financed after around an hour. Nevertheless, the big rocket boost did not occur in the first few minutes after the starting signal. It is becoming increasingly difficult to accurately predict the course of crowdfunding: unexpectedly, some games go through the roof within minutes, and titles with strong licenses sometimes fall well short of expectations. Fans of the Eve Online board game won't care, as long as the title was successfully raised above the target in the end.
The crowdfunding campaign created by Titanforge Games certainly makes a good impression. The basic game idea also seems to be convincing, as it is based fairly closely on the original. It's about exploring space, collecting minerals and fighting enemies. The latter happens with the spaceships known from Eve Online, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
By the way, fans of EVE: War for New Eden don't have to wait particularly long. The finished board game is scheduled to be shipped as early as December 2024. Provided everything runs smoothly in the production process, which is no longer a given. The Campaign runs until February 21nd.
