Disney+ has announced that it will deliver content for the Apple Vision Pro. Disney even plans to make 3D movies available on Apple's VR glasses, including Star Wars. For subscribers to the streaming service, the library that can be used on the glasses is expected to grow steadily.
Disney is bringing some of the most popular franchises from the entertainment segment to the Apple Vision Pro, the company announced. From February 2nd, technology fans will be able to explore four themed worlds with the new VR glasses on their heads, which are based on Monster AG, the Marvel Avengers Tower, the planet Tatooine from Star Wars and a virtual theater inspired by Disney's El Capitan.
Entertainment on the Apple Vision Pro
In addition to this special VR content, fans should also be able to watch high-quality films in 3D on the Apple Vision Pro. At launch these will be Avatar, Encanto, Elements, Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Over time, however, Disney wants to make more films available that you can watch on the Apple Vision Pro as a Disney+ subscriber. Conversely, the Apple TV app will also include its own 3D films that can be rented or purchased. Anyone who bought a film that contained the 3D version will be able to watch the film in three-dimensional format on the VR glasses - at no additional cost.
Disney CEO Bob Iger is very pleased with the collaboration and says Disney is constantly looking for new ways to entertain, inform or inspire by combining creativity and groundbreaking technology. The Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary platform that can bring fans closer to their beloved characters.
Apple's VR glasses will hit the US market in February. The Apple Vision Pro can be used in a variety of ways, but whether that alone is enough to make the device a success remains to be seen. The announcements are full-bodied, but it remains to be seen whether the headset can be successful, especially given the high price above $3.000.
The collaboration between Disney and Apple for the Apple Vision Pro doesn't necessarily come as a surprise. Last year there were several rumors that Apple could buy Disney. That ultimately didn't come true; it seemed to be pure speculation on the part of the analysts. At least it now shows that both companies can find a common denominator in the entertainment segment.
