As Disney Lorcana continues to sell in stores, many fans are probably wondering how to improve their deck. Ultimately, there is no getting around test games, but “Project Inklore” is now a tool in the works that can be used to simulate decks and games. The unofficial fan project is scheduled to start this year.
The following also applies to the trading card sector: If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. With increasing playing experience, it becomes easier to recognize good card abilities, determine synergies and ultimately build strong combos. In short: the more experienced a trading card game fan is, the better they will be able to put together decks on their own.
In addition to collecting and playing, building decks is a central element at Disney Lorcana. If you rely solely on lists on the Internet, you are missing out on a lot of the fun factor. Winning is nice, but winning with a deck of your own design is even nicer. Thanks to resourceful fans with a penchant for programming, Disney Lorcana players are expected to be able to use a tool this year to refine their deck strategies: Project Inklore.
Disney Lorcana: Getting better through simulations
There are fans behind the project, so the tool is unofficial and has no connection to Ravensburger or Disney. The card simulator is still interesting because the program not only allows you to play online games against friends, but also to try out and evaluate decks.
In trading card games, probability is very important: especially with powerful cards or combinations, it's all about the chance of being able to trigger them during a game. Various deck strategies can then be derived from this, which ultimately indicate through their names where the focus is: Aggro decks, for example, work with inexpensive cards and push for a quick victory. Control decks, on the other hand, only become stronger over the course of the game if they manage to control what is happening on the table. You weaken opposing characters, strengthen your own, thin out the ranks, and ultimately prevent your opponent from making any meaningful moves. All of this is based on probabilities, the analysis of which can be used to create a powerful deck of cards in Disney Lorcana.
The process is made more difficult by the fact that new skills are constantly being added. The second chapter “Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Flood Figures” already hints at it. On the new maps, “Robust” becomes a completely new ability introduced, which indicates how much additional damage the characters can withstand. Example: Robust +1 on a character would mean that any damage dealt to them is reduced by 1. Such changes can have a significant effect on existing decks and their strength. Previously strong cards become weaker when they encounter new cards with new buff or debuff options. Here again, in the end it is the experience that lets fans create good decks.
This is where the map simulator comes into play as a useful tool. According to programmers at Project Inklore, you will be able to import your decks and also test starting moves and mulligans. The closer you can get to a perfect start to the game, the more likely you are to win. Ultimately, it's about increasing the chance of getting the perfect starting hand. This can be simulated in order to then evaluate the game statistics, which can be used to fine-tune your deck.
A training tool that the makers of Project Inklore want to implement could also be helpful.
The tool will be free to use. Project Inklore describes itself as a virtual sandbox to simulate tabletop games. The creators recently announced their project and say that you will soon be able to register for a beta. The programmers expect the full release for winter 2023.
Further information will be communicated as the publication approaches. Information about the idea is available online: https://exert.ink/.
