Fans can crowdfund the board game for Cyberpunk 2077 Kickstarter support. CMON has already started the corresponding financing campaign - and the goal has now been achieved. However, the start of the campaign was slower than expected.
Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is the name of the board game for CD Projekt Red's action role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077. CMON did the same as the developer studio and messed up the start feeling. Of course, the publisher had already significantly exceeded the campaign target of around 95.000 euros on the second day, but the players were hesitant at the beginning.
Cyberpunk 2077: Shipping for the board game is a significant premium
Fans have now pumped almost 250.000 euros into the crowdfunding campaign for Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City – The Board Game. A proud sum, but it should have been significantly higher - at least considering the immense expectations of the license. Yes, Cyberpunk 2077 is not Marvel, Star Wars or Disney, but CD Projekt Red's video game adaptation made waves and brought the franchise worldwide attention. There were also corresponding expectations for the board game adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077.
Things went so slowly for the first few hours that people were inclined to call in a trauma team to revive the crowdfunding campaign. The patient is now alive again.
And now? Can't shake the feeling that CMON somehow overslept the start. Two points in particular about the Cyberpunk 2077 board game are criticized by fans. One of them affects the campaign: CMON charges shipping costs of 50 to 80 US dollars for the strong supporter regions - with a Kickstarter price of 110 US dollars, this means an immense surcharge. Taxes are not yet included. In addition, CMON had not published anything about the stretch goals on the first day. This resulted in a wait-and-see attitude from the fans. The central question: Why should you "buy" a board game with expensive shipping and unknown exclusive content via Kickstarter if it later finds its way onto the market?
Meanwhile, CMON has released information on the stretch goals and it's clear that more than a meager figure will jump out of it. A solo mode and various edge runners including maps now complete the basic box. This increases the motivation, at least among the fans, to support the campaign.
But fans also criticize the board game itself: Area Control? barren. The optics? Looks like The Godfather: Corleone's Empire - also by CMON. A map with a marked urban area, a few minis with colored rings, maps. The board game all about Cyberpunk 2077 is finished. After all, there is an influencer gameplay video with the designers, which CMON links prominently in the campaign. In the film, which lasts about an hour, you can find out in detail how Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City works – and the area control board game is probably not quite as boring as it might seem at first glance.
The price is also fair by CMON standards – at least if it stays at $110. Die-hard fans have to decide for themselves whether they want to pay the shipping costs plus taxes and thus double the price of the board game – the assumed mega hype surrounding the Cyberpunk 2077 board game hasn’t materialized so far. the Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City Kickstarter campaign runs until July 7th.
