Interactive book, instead of a game
Lands of Galzyr is an adventure game in which we explore an open game world and influence it according to our decisions. The game focuses heavily on the stories in the world and pushes the playful aspect into the background. A round consists of us moving up to two spaces on the game board. We then complete a so-called scene. Which scene is triggered is determined by what quests we have, what our current status is in the world or where we are in the world. But companions we meet during our travels can also trigger scenes.
Scenes are assigned numbers that appear on the various cards in the game. If we trigger a scene, we enter it in the so-called Book of Adventures. This is a website that contains all the stories from Lands of Galzyr and takes us through the adventures. After entering the number, the Book of Adventures gives us a story whose outcome we decide ourselves. Depending on how we decide and perform in various ability tests, different outcomes emerge.
Role-playing game with digital game master
Skill tests are rolled out in a role-playing style. Depending on the difficulty and nature of the current situation, a certain number of symbols of a skill type must be rolled. To do this, we use five D6 dice, which in their standard version display a symbol of the six different abilities - theft, power, survival, knowledge, communication & perception - on each side. For each ability that our character has learned, we are allowed to exchange one standard die for one die of the learned ability in our ability tests. They receive two pages with double successes in the learned skill, as well as two pages with successes for the neighboring skills on the personal board on which the skills are recorded. If we are successful in the ability test, we make progress with our project – typical of a role-playing game. If we don't achieve it, we fail.
Depending on the number of players, our journey ends after 5 – 8 rounds. Depending on how well we did, the story ends on a more celebratory or quieter note. Before the game we can decide whether we want to approach the game competitively or cooperatively. This does not affect the game itself, but only gives the winner an additional bonus at the end of the game.

Conclusion
It's hard to rate Lands of Galzyr. For a board game, it doesn't have enough playful elements that really spark and are good. Basically we just move our pawn across the map and roll the dice. Not more.
However, Lands of Galzyr is not about play, but about experiencing an exciting story. This is exactly what Lands of Galzyr delivers. You can immerse yourself in the world for hours and experience new, exciting little stories that can really touch you. The stories that Lands of Galzyr tells are really well written and you notice that some decisions, even small ones, still eat at us: Even if a person annoyed me in some way, I should have just been nice in the end. To this day I just feel bad for the decision I made... The fact that the game evokes these feelings shows that the stories are excellent.
However, you have to be clear about Lands of Galzyr: the game is more like a book in which you can participate interactively. You read a lot and all decision options are prescribed. This means you don't have quite the freedom you would in a role-playing game. Yet somehow it feels like one. One that is led by a digital game master and in which we are presented with various options that we first have to master in the form of a skills test.
Players who would like to experience good stories and plunge into a diverse world full of secrets and wild events alone or as a couple that look cute but are not always so cute (hence the recommendation for ages 14 and up) should definitely Take a look at Lands of Galzyr. The game hardly tells its stories as well as another game. However, if you expect a campaign game that is full of game mechanics and tells the story in passing, you should stay away from Lands of Galzyr. Ultimately you just have to read a lot (or have the PC read it automatically). Since the game is currently only available in English, you should be familiar with it.
