The Cobra Kai series has become a real hit with its trashy charm and references to the Karate Kid films. Now fans will be able to fight the battles on the home gaming table - but there is a small catch.
The martial arts dramedy series initially started on YouTube Red in 2018, moved to Netflix two years later and is now in its sixth and seventh round there. In January, the showrunners confirmed the renewal. On the home gaming table, Cobai Kai is now going into a further extension: Over Asmodee A board game based on the Netflix hit is released.
Cobra Kai: board game initially only available through Walmart
Cobra Kai: Road to Victory, the full name of the game, is touted as the official board game for the series, developed in cooperation with Sony Pictures Consumer Products and the French publisher Mixlore. The title, which focuses on a mix of deck building and dice action, costs around $25. Two to four players take on the roles of Sensei in their own dojos and try to win the All-Valley Karate Tournament. In Cobra Kai: Road to Victory, players have to train their students and then send them to the mat. The combatants have different and unique skills, and the game phases are divided into two parts.
Cobra Kai: Road to Victory is the first Netflix series to be adapted as a board game. There are also corresponding licensed games for Queen's Gambit, Bridgerton, Squid Game and Stranger Things.
There is one downer for fans: the Cobra Kai board game is available exclusively through Walmart. The title will probably still find buyers in Germany in the short term, because there are plenty of fans of the series here too. Asmodee says sales will start in the United States at the beginning of August, and the Cobra Kai board game will be available worldwide later in the year.
