In the board game landscape there are many different board game backpacks that are intended to make transporting board games easier, but usually come with immensely high prices. The Polish one Shop Nerd Hunters However, it offers one for the price of €32,99 cheap alternative at. Nerd Hunters was kind enough to provide us with one of their backpacks. You can find out whether this is also convincing in terms of quality in the following review.

Before a meeting with friends, before a vacation or when buying games at trade fairs or in game stores... Transporting board games is always a difficult undertaking. Which games come with it and how many can I get and how? Usually not too many can come with you, as even a small number of games are very heavy. Board game backpacks make it possible to easily transport as many games as possible from A to B. We were able to test the inexpensive board game backpack from Nerd Hunters on a variety of occasions and, among other things, subjected it to the extreme test of moving.

The first impression is deceiving

We were very excited before unpacking. Such an affordable board game backpack? Can it even be good?! Folded up in a large plastic bag, the backpack at first glance gave the impression that we had ordered something from one of the usual Chinese junk shops that can currently be found all over the Internet. But once unpacked and filled, the enthusiasm was great.

It's nice that the backpack can be opened completely all the way down. This means you have a perfect view of all the games you have brought with you and can easily put them in and out.

About the basic data: The backpack measures 32 x 33 x 50 cm and weighs a little less than 1 kg. A total of around 7 standard-sized games fit into the large of the two compartments. The small compartment is still large enough to accommodate a few smaller games. The backpack is made of a water-resistant material, which provided good protection from rain during our test. The backpack is closed by a thick zipper that is easy to open and close. Overall, the backpack appears to be of high quality and has a good feel.

Fully packed and still comfortable

The backpack is a stunner on your back. Because of its size, it's easy to bump into some edges. However, you have this problem with all backpacks of this size. There is plenty of space for games that can be taken anywhere. In our test, we stacked various games in the backpack, which worked great regardless of size. While games in the standard size didn't cause any problems, with larger or smaller boxes you usually had to play a little Tetris and stack the games vertically. Nevertheless, the games fit perfectly in the backpack.

The bottom of the backpack does not have a solid panel. If you have a few vertically stacked boxes in your backpack, the bottom tends to sag a little and makes carrying them a little more uncomfortable. A board game lying horizontally on the floor usually provides the right solution.

When fully packed, the backpack puts a lot of weight on your back. Nevertheless, thanks to the adjustable straps and good padding, it is easy to carry and doesn't hurt much on the shoulders. It's also nice that the backpack doesn't carry a lot of weight and therefore doesn't carry any additional load. Longer distances on foot or by car can be easily overcome with a backpack.

Pro

With

+ low weight
+ adjustable belt system with pads
+ Space for about 7 standard size games
+ second compartment offers space for smaller games or accessories
+ weatherproof
+ great value for money
– If you play less games, the backpack tends to sag, which affects the comfort
– not very stable when not filled
– Carrying handle feels like it won’t last long

Conclusion on the test of the backpack

We were able to test the Nerd Hunters board game backpack extensively for four weeks. It was used to transport games for game evenings and for moving. In summary, it was a great support thanks to its large storage space and low weight. The backpack was the most important gadget for game nights outside the home, as it enabled a wide selection of games, no matter where or with whom you played. Especially during my move, it served as a good replacement for a moving box and was a perfect moving helper simply because I could carry it on my back.

The backpack was particularly impressive when fully packed.

At home, the board game backpack can be used as additional storage space for games, as the compartment can be opened all the way to the floor, giving you a good view of the games in the backpack. If you don't want to use it as extra storage space, the backpack can be folded up and stored to save space thanks to its lightweight material.
